Only have 35 watts into a slim jim but noticed my light was glowing from the RF the other night.
Though signal is only getting out 5 miles but its very built up where I am.

I checked and surprised most freeview channels were on on the other aerial downstairs so glad its not wiping it out.
though never on for more than a day.

I remember the RF powered light you could stick on your CB antenna back in the day! (Never had one mind you, wasn't sure about the possible detrimental effect on power output or SWR)

Do you have a choke or other type of balun on your slim jim? Could be the RF coming back down the braid of your coax and getting into your domestic wiring. 3-6 coils of coax just below the antenna feed point is your buddy - see here:

Code: Select all

If it is a hassle getting to the antenna, maybe try a snap on ferrite on the mains cable of the light, or switch to an old school incandescent bulb... :smoke

Pricey but defo better than using the dipole before.
Very heavy aerial so needs a very good pole to be on.

It's not very expensive to build but £59.00 isn't too bad for an aerial like that.

I was going to ask if your antenna is in the loft and hence filling your house with RF. But since you mention the pole I assume it's outside. Maybe get it a bit higher up?
