Thats nuts about Lightning 90.8. I got a tape from jan 89. I don't get up London much anymore. I see they were off a couple of years but shocked to here they are still about. And on the same frequency. Although i remember for a while them being on 91 fm even tho they said 90.8. That was in Chiswick area very early 90s.

Absolutely right they always called it 90.8 but they were actually on 91.0 till 1994 when the BBC put more transmitters for radio 123 and 4 at crystal palace radio 3 getting 91.0 fm it was funny they used to say 90.8 five years before they left 91 to go on 90.8

Easy mate. Yeah I'm alright mate. Been manic with getting married recently and god knows what else. All good tho thanks :)
Yeah slowly sorting some of my tapes out. The Lightning one is funny. One point some female DJ says they had spoken to the DTI about getting a licence... then she started playing some 'sheep noise sound effects' saying this it was they said.

So far it seem it's between Cyndicut and Genesis, I don't care if they have gone off air and came back on again and that does not excude them from being on the longest.

If you put it that way it has to be lightning January 89 I would have said RJR but I can't because it's not the original RJR at the moment but the first RJR was 1986

But Lightning have had sustained periods off (years) so it cannot be them. If you catch the Vibe, pardon the punt.

I recall in their early days Lightning had Jumping Jack Frost and Brian Gee doing shows before Drum and Bass conception (89)

I think you will find it was only one for about 3 years at the end of the 90s

It's probably RFL - Radio Free London. Started on August 7th or 8th 1967 on medium wave and still made sporadic transmissions until the early years of this century on FM. A couple of the people involved were with the station for almost 40 years!

I don't think so there was an SLR around 1990 with djs like dizzy dee and nut nut who went on to later stations and this SLR stood for sophisticated London radio and it's not the present SLR so the oldest are lightning vibes and station and the other one that started in 1989 is supreme 99.8 but they had a full 10 years off returning in the year 2000

Longest running London pirate: Undoubtedly RFL (Radio Free London). First transmissions in 1968 (some claim 1967) and was still appearing fairly regularly about 5 years ago.
