TOWER 108 FM

Post by Michael Orme » Tue Sep 13, 2016 12:02 pm

I was on a high hill above Colwyn Bay North Wales yesterday. I picked up a radio station called TOWER. It was on 108 FM. I can't pick it up in Rhyl, or on Colwyn Bay prom, so I'm guessing that it is from Ireland? I can't find any information about it on the Internet at all. Any one here know how how I can find out more?

Never heard of it personally, in Dublin I know there was a station called the square on 108fm was the last station on that freq and that only lasted a few days but to my knowledge that one is now inactive, though you never know with pirates it could be a new operation and if so it must be pushing some power. I do know that soulcity which is a Dublin pirate also covers some part of wales on 92.0fm but probably has nothing to do with it

DJ did mention "Here on Tower", a few times. I did record a bit of it, but just music. Was on 108FM, there is a local station on 107.8FM from Llandudno, but was quite separate. Liverpool maybe? I just can't find anything for Tower FM, on 108 FM, whilst searching the Internet.

I'd be amazed. I live within earshot of that garbage and I can't think of a single reason why anyone would bother. Tower FM / Wire FM are a criminal waste of spectrum and want taking off.

Nothing changes, then.

Tower Fm....... It's most certainly a pirate from the Merseyside area, I picked it up over the weekend. I think the legendary Bert Willams is behind it.

I can't pick it up in Rhyl, so must be low power. I'll try from Gwaenysgor View Point car park sometime. I thought there might be some mention of it on the Internet.

I assume the main thing i'm listening out for is the chaps talking, fading in and out?

I listened out for everything possible and they're is definitely nothing irish in that recording from what i can hear. It doesn't seem to be a local relay either unless it's very very low power. I can find nothing on the internet about it either. I'm also interested to find out what it is

It sounded to me as if someone had recorded a few different radio programs, mixed them together, and broadcast the recording on 108 FM. There is a local station on 107.8 FM, but this was not it. I was on the Great Orme above Llandudno. I could not hear anything at all on 108 FM when I was at Gwaenysgor View Point car park, overlooking Prestatyn and the Wirral, it could be that "Tower" was not broadcasting that day. I did pick it up very clear on a hill above Colwyn Bay, so maybe Irish, or from Anglesey?

As I said earlier, not from Ireland or Anglesey but most certainly from the Merseyside area. The fact that Steve Martian was djing confirms the Bert Williams tie in.

Your best chance to try for this station would be over the weekend.

That's probably exactly what's happening.

Steve Wright on Radio 2 clearly in the mix with some other stuff.

that definitely sounds like newstalk 106 to 108 fm. It's one of the 2 "independant" (well that's debatible) national stations in ireland. Originally a dublin only station when it launched around 2001, went national in 2007 if i remember rightly. At least that's all i heard in that recording (i assume it's the irish lads talking i'm listening out for)

This is what I first picked up. Chap talking definitely said "Here On Tower", before playing this music. You can't hear his comments here though.

Try something like dropbox or https://www.mediafire.com/ instead of Soundcloud. They are less likely to have the technology to scan the files for copyright audio.
