Great work. What's the link for the SDR site you used.

Nice one. I remember there was some issue with receiving the pirates via that tuner for a while, has the owner sorted it out?

I'm not sure what you mean mate, been using that tuner on and off for the last few years and always picked them up. Doesn't seem to pick up as well as it used to but will always hear something. Best time is to try in the evening after 5pm on a week day (NY time) or any time over the weekend. :tup

Globaltuners.com mate.

There's a few SDR's on there, our friend Bristolpirates has one on there. The New York City node uses the Sony XDR-F1HD which is well known for it's great sensitivity and it's tight selectivity.

I can't remember what it was, possibly he was using a directional aerial and had it pointed in a direction that wasn't much good for the pirates.

I'm on the tuner at the moment and checking some of the unids in your list.

I think 89.7 and 89.9 might be related as they are both playing the same noise art stuff, but I don't think they are in sync. 89.9 is a college station freq though, so maybe 89.7 is too?

89.9 WFM 230k WKCR College

91.1 is playing an eclectic music selection (80s House, Brazilian music etc..), but it's WFMU a college station, so not sure it's what you heard.

91.1 WFM 230k WFMU College

88.5 X radio is playing an episode of Doctor Who.

The best ones are 99.9, 100.7 and 101.7. They seem to sound 'raw' like most of the Reggae stations over this side of the woods. Not sure what 91.1 was but it was wiping out the usual station on there at the time...

Found a very interesting FCC Enforcement Action Table site here:

OK, this is weird - Tune to 88.3 and listen to all 3 HD settings. Then tune to 88.4 and then 88.5. The HD channels are on those two freqs. Any ideas how this HD thing really works? I know on an SDR you will see a thick band either side of the normal FM signal and these are the HD digital bands, so why I'm hearing them .1 and .2 up from the main signal I don't know. 88.5/HD3 is still playing Doctor Who too, which seems a bit weird for a Jazz station to be doing that on one of it's HD channels.

I just caught a jingle on 98.9 - Rebel Ladies / Lady. Could be the DJ rather than the station name.

EDIT: 98.9 is Future FM :) http://futurefm.net

I've got no idea but I found that too, I also found I could hear HD2 channel for the main frequency 100-200khz up. The tuner does some odd things especially when it comes to the FM HD channels with 'the request timed out' and other bugs, must just be one of the many!

Most of the pirates I picked from New York city were either in foreign or sounded Jamaican/Caribbean, but at the same tme I must admit I don't think the NYC accent is as bad as the rest of America sounds.

I was playing around with the new SDR Play GT node in New York last night and managed to get a few more than usual. Had a look to see if there were any other bandscans out there, but didn't find any. I turned up a few articles on pirate radio in NY though, and they are allowed to publish names, freqs, etc... in the states.

http://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/20 ... io-feature
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/05/nyreg ... e-air.html

Lots of propaganda and bullshit out there too, just like over here:
