any 1 else agrees? when jungle went huge how many stations was there , garage dubstep dnb but to name a few styles . maybe a new style of music would bring a few back out of the woodwork

agreed even 10 years ago there were a wide range of good stations...now there are nearly the same amount of stations but most of them have dials filled with shit

streaming maybe the cause killing radio as much less hassle to do but better sound just shame the networks charge so much for data which gone way up for less and not unlimited so its harder to listen when out.

In my experience....All the known stations were all started by people in their teens/20s, after 20 years everyone is in their last 30s early 40s some even in their 50s.

The problem is these people have done it for some many years, and if the 'younger' ones coming through don't want to help set up stations suffer.

Cant remember his name, but he is the boss of Cyndicate Fm, his name escapes me, but he saying how hard it is to get people involved helping set up and so on.

DJ's now just want to play their set and go, in my experience its very hard to get other to join the cause to keep stations going.

the thing I found hardest these days running a station was finding djs to play , they used to be 10 to the dozen ,seems nobody wants to be a dj anymore , years back youd find them in record shops now sadly there isn't any

That would explain why so many hours are filled with endless loops of recordings?

I think it's finding enough decent djs to play, if your running a station from outside of London it's almost impossible to fill a 7 day 12hr roster with good quality djs. I'd love to switch on but around these ways there is only about 8-10 djs worth putting on

The beauty of nowadays is you don't have to let the lack of local talent put you off, people can stream in from anywhere in the world

It depends what genre of music you're talking about:

There's no Jazz station in London - the DAB one mostly plays crappy soul stuff and Kenny G seems to be the height of their instrumental taste.

There's no real Rock station in London - Absolute is an absolute joke and just plays crap pop - there's more real rock on Radio 2!

There's no "world music" station - Resonance tries, but is run by a bunch of happy amateurs who don't have a broadcasting clue between them.

The rest of the band is a mess of unlistenable garbage.

Yeah to be fair Jakki Degg has been on Pirate radio for years, is she still on Flex? She didnt sell out and go mainstream radio either

Times have changed i moved away from London and now consume all of my time listening to vision and kool or other established pirates via streaming

Times have moved on why risk massive fines setting up with the hassle of being taken off the air to just broadcast to london when the world is waiting on the mobile phones and pcs to listen

And now facebook live seems to be taking over for djs ( Whatever you want to call them ) to stick on there cameras on there phone and play for 2 hrs and then log off

The world consumes music so differently to how it did 20 years ago i reckon by 2030 pirate radio will be a part of history but lets just remember we was all part of a glorious journey
