Nope. I still have a complete analogue recording set-up, with a 24-track Studer A800 and a couple of 2-track Studer A80s, SSL Mixer, Quad ESL63 (mid & top) / Dynaco TX-line (bass) monitor speakers, lots of good outboard gear, plenty of nice microphones and an almost perfectly anechoic recording room. There's a prog band recording there at the moment (though they're worried about the lock-down). People still like tape!

Yes, machines on pic was manufactured in 70s and early 80s, but still widely used across 90s. Reel to reel was irreplaceable broadcast recording format at that time (yes there was DAT, but it was very expensive machines and inappropriate for editing).
And what you cannot see clear on pic is new formats on table Tascam DA30 DAT, two Tascam CD players, Sony MDR, and first version Cooledit on PC. So it is not flashback to 79 ;)

People still like tape because they say it has a ‘warmer’ sound. It is much like the argument of vinyl vs mp3.Personally I have a couple of cassette 4 tracks I muck around with but they are hissy as fcuk, and do not compare to a 2” reel to reel!

I hope the admins won't mind because we're off the topic. Here is full power of master tape (even youtube loss format sound is fantastic!) This is first generation production tape (master copy) from Jugoton (they produced licensed editions of LP for Yugoslavian market). This tape was stolen (and many more tapes) from their depo and sold on Ebay.
