Rock music on 87.7 FM

Hearing back to back classic rock interspersed with jingles and promos for a well known publication (to us older anoraks) called Offshore Echoes on 87.7 FM in the Romford area. Seems very localised, no more than a few watts I reckon. Anyone from this neck of the woods hearing this. Albert, do you remember the last two rock pirates to grace the London airwaves. Rock 106 and Radio Argus on MW ?

Yes. There was also HMR on 106 on a weekday evening. Argus sometimes appears in other parts of the country - most often in Cornwall.

There's sometimes a reappearance of RFL if Myers can ever be bothered, and RFM sometimes turns up on 106.5 when the white noise specialists are off!

That's been running for years if it's what I think it is - luckily I don't live over that way anymore but I would hazard a guess it's something to do with Nova

I visited the Rock 106 studios on numerous occasions (I use the term studios very loosely) and got to know Nigel and especially Bernard quite well. He repaired my rig many times. As you probably know Albert, Nigel passed away a few years ago and his voice is sadly missed when it came to rock pirate radio, always loved his shows. I was there the night before the famous on air studio raid when you can hear the then DTI storming the studio with Nigel on air at the time. I think I still have the raid on tape somewhere. Albert, was it you that used to come on air straight after Rock 106 had finished their transmissions for the night? I didn't know about RFM popping up on 106.5, I shall have to keep my ears open for that. Classic rock back on air on 87.7 at the moment in the Romford area as per usual for the weekend.

Hello, this is my first post on here. There is a station broadcasting near Hertford which is re-broadcasting the web stream of Caroline on 87.7. There is a dance pirate on 87.7 as you drive in to Hertford which is coming from London, but the Caroline one takes over near the train station and gets really strong the further into Hertford you go then fades quickly. It also has RDS saying BBC 87.7. It can't be the one mentioned above but it seems more than one are doing it.

It's nice to know there are still old anoraks out there willing to put decent music out over the airwaves even if it is a Caroline relay. Excellent stuff. (To be honest I've got a pretty good idea who the culprit is, but I shall mention no names here.)

I can hazard an ursine guess too!

There was a London-wide test with rock recently on 87.6MHz. It was a middle-of-the-night job, stereo, RDS of "RFM Test", and very powerful - it flattened the things on 87.5 and 87.7. It was coming from somewhere around Highgate and had excellent coverage. I can also guess who was responsible.....
