what are your opinions guys??? from what im thinking the top one you just plug and play after tuneing and the second one you would need a Balun as well as tuneing

I personally prefer the 1/4wave ground plane compared to a dipole. But as Tec has mentioned I've tried a J-pole (broadcast version) made by sandpiper antenna (which they no longer do- unless you shorten the 70mhz one) and that worked very well!

Yes I copied it .I got 1 from USA and started making them u have to have an antenna mfj to do it ...j pole antenna calculator on google it works well.

You’re probably better off using an N-connector. An SO239 will probably be ok, but been told they’re built for lower frequencies.

I personally prefer the small BNCs but that’s a different story.

We always considered the SO239 to be an audio connector. They're useless at RF!!

On the wikipaedia page for the SO-239 it says "The UHF connector is a World War II or earlier threaded RF connector design, from an era when "UHF" referred to frequencies over 30 MHz." Sums it up perfectly. In fairness I think the SO-239 is a victim of its own success, it is much more popular than the N connector on American ham radio equipment, so there'd be a whopper factory in China making them out of recycled spitoons and smokers snot.

Up to a few hundred Watts I use "N"-Types. I've even had these melt at 900W!
