You can see that many of them are 100 Watt jobs, and there are a fair few low power pirates on "unallocated" frequencies in the band and up beyond the band - as you've discovered!

Only 1630 makes it over every now and then this evening on the small radio no big antenna today.

The 1600-1800 KHz is also popular with Greek and Serbian pirates. Under favorable conditions some of these signals might make it to the UK.

thx it can be very difficult to know what is happening, you hear mainly Dutch and a bit of German Dutch man saying hello in German and sometimes bit of English, they are off and on all the time as well, it appear quite chaotic to me as a casual listener... it is kind of its own phenomena, you have to accept you cannot understand very much of what is said.

nothing else quite like it, some of the music is a bit off for an English ear bu it sounds quite positive in general, some are more slow and sad songs on some station, one especially likes it more slow and a bit depressing, other play pop music and dance music, i like to hear Eurodance music stuff techno etc. that is more universal for everyone

Invite in Dutch, Greek and Serbian, maybe they come to a chat here ?

i can hear 1630 play the police and some 80's gothics song cannot remember the name 1648 and 1620 very low just on tecsun the noise is higher than they are most of the time. they are just about there which is not too bad a sony 7600 gr is better, less noise and audio is more smooth actually they come in ok at times.. sony better than tecsun..1630 is ok missed the station id but eh speaks english good mix of music all over 80's 60's and weird stuff unusual

Will be tuning in to MW top end and some 6200 ish SW this evening, got some free time so will give some reports on here as to signal levels probably from about 7pm uk time.

Using a 20m long dipole this evening, RX is very good and very low noise also. Hope to bring some of the smaller ones in
with luck.

1611 is interesting, just caught the back of something? free radio S2-S3 and lot of fading..1620 S4 Dutch music, 1630 Ballad female S2, 1640 S1 low song and Dutch voice, that's it for now.

1365 and 875 might have something interesting on them, ska music on 1365 S4, 875 no signal just very low music.

1611 is Radio Augustus international I think. Lots of fading but got the ID and their audio is quite distorted.

yodelling on 1640, ye you heard it right yodelling. 1630 someone plays a tone over to try and block music under I think... pirate wars a disagreement maybe ? 1611 winning the strognest signal yet S5

875 uk legal by the sounds of it. 1620 hit S7 strongest so far, like accordian music,.1620 very good aduio quality clear mic

it says Ivory coast, that's pretty far away.. maybe they say that to ward the French authorities off
so they don't come looking, it;s 3,000 miles and mw does not go that far i think.

very occasional audio burst.

I wonder if Rod ferrite reads this, if so drop by ? It was a fun evening, I probably won't do it every weekend but do enjoy a listen.
I am a bit surprised there are not more of them I remember hearing 6-8 of them in years gone by. maybe some passed away or some got raided, they occasional do. I did hear a few blast in Sunday evening on a Sony SW receiver with just an internal ferrite antenna. 1611 was especially strong for a short period, like hearing Caroline in the daytime.

MW/AM seems to be the only place where there is any actual pirate activity these days, long may that be the case. Very few
FM in the S.E away from London.

Barones used to be a station on but not heard them or at least not ID'd them yet. Nice way to spend an evening.
