I actually use white noise (and "pink", filtered noise) for checking the shape of the pre-emphasis and 15 kHz low-pass filters in the stereo audio processor paths. It's a great way of graphically seeing the response on an audio spectrum analyser.
I also use the same sources for setting up the filters for medium wave and short wave transmitters. You can get full mod throughout the audio bandwidth and see what the filters are doing. It's also good for stress-testing a high-level amplitude modulator since you can really thrash it throughout the audio bandwidth simultaneously!
