Possible 10GHz WBFM project for fun?

Everything technical about radio can be discussed here, whether it's transmitting or receiving. Guides, charts, diagrams, etc. are all welcome.

Possible 10GHz WBFM project for fun?

Post by Gigahertz » Fri Dec 11, 2020 6:56 pm

Evening necks,

Been asked for help sourcing a couple of band 1 receivers for a small station doing something over Xmas but as I didn't have much joy with receivers and didn't fancy building from scratch I couldn't help them out. (Think they were going to test SDR dongle and pi which boots up the receiver on a set freq?)

Anyway, not sure if these modules have been mentioned before (I know the "HB" have) but during my research I came across this article from a ham radio clubs website of cheap 10GHz WBFM setup. Modules are sold on ebay as "microwave sensor doppler car house detectors for arduino's". How stable these modules are or the quaility but hopefully I'll find out soon as the two I order arrived today. Once I get the other components I'll give it a try so thought I would also share the article for those who wanted to give it a go :tup

I see "N"-igma's got some nice frequency-tracking Satcan's left for 20 quid kit or 25 quid built but not many left.

The problem with Infrared is noise due to rain or fog (especially at this time of year), and the beam being broken by passing birds! I did do a "diversity" digital IR link from block to block a few years ago, using three spaced beams - it was unlikely that all three would be broken simultaneously! It worked OK, but was a real hassle to set up, and at 400m, it was at the limit of its range.
"Why is my rig humming?"
"Because it doesn't know the words!"

Seems like a sensible alternative to the GunnPlexxer!
