Re: Pirates in Cheshire
I've got Waves here at the moment. I also heard Central on Sunday afternoon and evening. There was also a station on 102.2 in Merseyside on Sunday morning which seemed to have gone by the afternoon. It appeared to be a live presenter but I didn't catch an ID as it was fading in and out as I was driving.
No sign of LPR on 87.5 for quite some time although, of course, I could just be tuning in at the wrong time. I haven't heard Elite for a while either.

Re: Pirates in Cheshire
Well, it's been a fascinating time in recent weeks here in Cheshire. First of all, it was good to hear Radio Overdrive 101.4 return with its 7 day service over the Christmas period. Merseyland Alternative Radio were also on throughout the Christmas period too on 87.5mhz. And it doesn't stop there as MAR have been heard testing on Medium wave 1485khz this weekend gone and were also heard on 6266khz over Christmas.
So it's been very lively here in Cheshire with our two main stalwarts on the air.

Saying 7 day makes you sound like your on 24/7 but you are on for a few hours at best , on other threads you talk like you own overdrive, but today “good to hear overdrive return”, lol

Not the owner but the engineer, so close connection to Overdrive. Yes only 3 hours every Sunday afternoon. Would be nice to be 24/7 that's true but it's having the time and commitment to do that, but the broadcast were at a regular time over Christmas and although only a few hours a day were non the less on for 7 days.
Quite an achievement for a small humble radio station. We've always punched above our weight.

Re: Pirates in Cheshire
It strikes me if most people hear these throught sdr’s, someone could move a transmitter close to the sdr,
think someone already did that, there is at least some activity there, I don’t mean to do anyone down

Re: Pirates in Cheshire
Bit pointless doing that. Sdr servers can’t handle many concurrent listeners, and if you can be heard on one and not another, you’re actually helping triangulate

Yeah agree with you on that Lee with one at a time access into SDRs. Good point about triangulation although I know that would not make any difference as triangulation is taken from two stationary recieving stations in any one area before mobile tracking is utilized to complete the find.LeeCavanagh wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:01 am Bit pointless doing that. Re: Pirates in Cheshire
Yeah you would need to use the signal meter on the SDR , you are correct tho. The point was it was mentioned that someone could essentially park upto an SDR which would be pretty obvious to the user. And a lot more inconvenient than just setting up a web stream of your own

Re: Pirates in Cheshire
Signal strength meters, remotely rotatable directional aerials calibrated in degrees, and 3 SDR's within range of the target. So it seems unlikely. Agreed on the web stream, easy enough to set up and preferable to listening via SDRtvtv wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 2:00 pm Yeah you would need to use the signal meter on the SDR , you are correct tho. Re: Pirates in Cheshire
I've heard Ruby a couple of times hear in Cheshire. As people are aware, I set up this thread and I've always argued (nicely) that if a signal can ne heard in Cheshire no matter what county outside Cheshire it's from, then why shouldn't it be mentioned on this thread? That should work the other way round too. If a Cheshire pirate is heard in another county say Greater Manchester for example, then it has every right to be mentioned on that thread. Radio is restricted enough as it is without imposing our own regulations I'd have thought.

If you need to be the bloke on top of a hill with a yagi in order to get the out of county broadcast then i’m not convinced it applies, maybe that’s just me. If joe bloggs can get it on a portable radio at home then that changes my mind. I can get ruby where I am in Cheshire but can’t get mar , mar a couple of years ago yes but not since. I don’t get Overdrive eaither (sorry, but I do when I get closer in the car)
