I do love that clip, they conformed to iba standarns the woman can keep her noise out.

ILR’s they didn’t like the am signal of Kiss looks as though they complained about it, energy had problems later on, the other stations there put pressure record companies got atomic kitten to with draw from an event. Kiss did move its am frequency, they said they were to close, really think they didn’t like them been there. Kiss fm did simliar thing to Energy, it started in uk, got raided by the dti, moved across the border may of been the first to try transmit all the way over to belfast from across the boarder on fm, Theres lots of info about it over here

I’ve more fasinated with this with hearing Energy, maybe not as interesting to other people, I think they had perfected the aerials when it came to Energy, they had to change transmission site for kiss 103.7, didn’t have line of sight to Belfast, thats were you get your adverts from. The am stations they did try to get advertising from the mainland, nova had an office in liverpool for a time, it was not possible, with fm there was noway it could be done, obviously the signals could get across, someone used to listen energy in liverpool, someone else in preston, likely receivable down the western coast, over parts of lancashire, lake district and scotland, further with fading.
The aerials do look more directional than energy, I think they had a wider beam pointing east, they had the aerials pointing north for Kiss, did tests with 100w, it must of sounded like something to hear, the tests for energy were 150w, before they got the 5kw. Abit of shame that the transmissions from miles for kiss are only recorded from the am would of sounded really good in stereo ‘we are kiss fm monaghan town’. I much prefer energy, theres alot of 80’s music could be hear else were, they did put enthusiasm into it, how excited would someone of been hearing that coming all the way from monaghan.
I have nothing from the early transmissions of Energy from 1998, thats when it started coming across, I do remember it playing dream house le voyage. I do remember it coming over clear, stereo signal, it faded out, I thought it was someone messing about when I first heard it, it said it was transmitting to northern ireland, it was hard to believe, it became a regular thing. I thought it was licenced, I heard alot of pop, it was very professional alot of the time you would not know it was coming off of vhs, the ra had also licenced stations like crash fm, vibe, kiss 105 i could hear on fm, crash came in with noisy signal, vibe you could sometimes get from the east of england, on kiss 105 they used some of the same amercian jingles. I’m not sure I think miles did something to the aerials after 1998, I do remember it belting in, there was the storm too, that knocked it off air. I taped over an early recording in 1999, this is earlyest recording of it does have all the wonderful fadding over it. You could get hold of the programming from september 1999, they closed the store with licence application on dab, club energy with the magic fly is really good, its a back to to back mix with not much talking at all.
I do remember energy transmitting a 1khz test tone, this must of been not long after they started in 1998, I was able to recieve this downstairs in the kitchen of our house on a pocket radiio you could hear it varying around, a signal from 400kms away mega..
