22db dead carrier, wonder what its like when theres audio going to it, 27dbs noise up at 108, would be difficult to overcome the noise there.

30 miles to Bristol, maybe form there ? Or maybe it is the Cardiff buddy in the stix got it up and rockin' ?
The dial is Glowing 88-108 , spin the wheel to light those Red LEDs , see signal needle rise.

Re: Stingdem
Maybe a 1w could reach over there from 200kms away lol switch it on, gg fm maybe a tx on a horse, abit of bach or tchaikovsky what they listen to at the racers,
sounds like a posh place i’m guessing noones there except the host,
so its only got stingdem or fm to keep the receiver warm and enjoy a frosting from.
I think sting is west midlands but I wasn’t sure either, I remember hearing it weak years ago, pirates seem to have better set ups then, not something I know much about though, folks can discuss that else were if they want.
I kind of did it in kms anyway from brimingham to chelthenham 50-60kms, i’m not familiar with the area, there must be clear line of sight. The distance of the 1w from the uni I measured it as 40 kms, maybe not much increase in the signal if power was increased if whats said on here is true. in a theory with clear line of sight you might get something weak in the backround with 1w.
which would be a frosting for sure, bang goes the theory anyway.

Lived in Bristol for a few years and used to make that drive up the m5 to Bham fairly often. Had some mates living in Cheltenham at the time too so stopped there quite a bit.radionortheast wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 9:51 am I kind of did it in kms anyway from brimingham to chelthenham 50-60kms, i’m not familiar with the area, there must be clear line of sight.
Cheltenham and Gloucester are in a bit of a valley between the Malverns to the (north)west and Cotswolds to the east. Going north/south though its pretty flat all the way from South Bham to the Severn estuary.
Driving south on the M5 I'd get Bham pirates almost as far as Tewkesbury, where they'd fade out probably from the shadow of Bredon hill. A little further south and they'd start to come in weakly again near to Cheltenham.
Driving north from Bristol I'd get the Bristol community stations (SWU and Ujima, there were no pirates on air when I was there) most of the way to Cheltenham.

Re: Stingdem
Thanks Jvok I was kind of thinking of what it was like, to have a flat area is the best case scenario, to the south west here I have lots of hills, mondo flat to the east.
The sdr I often listen to here, is on one of the hills, I was just thinking of the fact the uni is on flat land, the hill way off in the distance,
I was kind of thinking it was a similar situation, i'm pretty sure I see these sdrs in my dreams now, dream of a signal reaching them.

With audio going to it you can tell that its there, would of been easy to go over, interesting find, there are lot more clear frequencies there than here for sure, here they seem to have different transmitters for each city, or a few of them, leads to total over saturation.
