The mod sensitivity is somewhat determined by the production spread on the varicaps, but it's typically round 1V p-p for 75kHz deviation. We usually make the gain of the audio buffer adjustable, so that the 1.5V p-p that comes from our composite clipper gives full mod.

LB is "Little Brother". He started out in the Navy, learned about aerials and transmitters there, and got into aerial rigging when he got out of the Navy. Over the last 17 years, he's been largely living out of a suitcase, installing, maintaining and constructing radio broadcast gear all over the planet.
He keeps a flat at home in Hamburg, but never seems to be there! He and I have been friends for about 30 years, and have worked together regularly for about the last 15 years. I was partly trained by his Dad (almost a lifetime ago). We're now related, as his sister got married to my nephew four years ago.
