Hello Lee!

Unfortunately there is no parts list, However all components are listed on the schematic!

Details not listed are :-

Electrolytic caps are all 25V except for C16 which is 16V

R46 is 3W rated

What cause this to happen.
Hello Radium!

I am not sure what is going on with your version? There are some areas that you could check?

Confirm that you have a stable DC supply (and 9V from the regulator)

Replace both ICs as they do most of the work in circuit

Maybe replace the FET? Although full LED activation indicates an IC fault? (Possibly temperature inflicted)

Yes Rigmo!

There should also be some DC traces on the upper side!

thanks sinus , i dont know what is wrong , i have found my old lay , and i will duplicate for last time , it is the same as the one you re design and different from my version that i bought in early days . i suspect the fet not original , what else other than bf256 can i replace with ?
do younotice with the sound is quite , some audible levelling ?

Thanks, yes I actually successfully built a couple shortly after I posted that message , it’s been a while, but it works well, I use those gold audio caps for nearly all of them.

Thanks so much

Looking at your video, I doubt that the Jfet is the issue? If it was? The LED meter would not react as it does!

Something is triggering a random "Hard limit" state to occur? The TL074 that drives the LEDs also drives the JFet!

Maybe The TL074 is faulty or losing DC power/ground? The problem is likely to be in that area?

With regards to the audible output? The limiter has plenty of gain! The slow release time can be heard on quiet sections if listened carefully? Mr Hailstorm Posted a good representation of how it should sound!

Nice work Rigmo!

One thing i would change with my version if i was to revisit? Is to increase trace size between R46 and D5 for better heat dissipation? The large ground plane tends to keep temperature under control so not so much of a concern! Also 12V to 14V is plenty for the circuit to operated correctly!

Why you not use LM7809? on photo i see R7 not conected ?

R7 was simply before I’d finished if you mean my earlier picture

Yes those are the traces around R46 and D5 that i would make larger! An LM7809 would also be a alternative! The diode approach was just to keep it as close to the original as possible

R7 was included in the design to correct for DC offset following an original passive 15Khz filter! Since an active filter was used (TL074) There was no need for R7!

Mm mm. I still having trouble making it work. Could it be a bug of copying mine or the original pcb design bought. Hope to make it work
