Looks like community radio station 'Bang Radio' has changed their name for the third time and this time it's to 'The Beat' which is the same name as their local pirate station 'The Beat 101.9FM' who have been with us since approx 1994. (Was 107.1MHz from 1994 to 1996/97)

....I don't think 101.9 will be very happy about this, I wonder what will happen now and it will be interesting to see if they have two stations with the same name from the same area?!

Any name is better than bang as for the pirate they can't do anything about it

I can't say I agree more. It's a shite name anyway and with all the gun violence in London I think it was a terrible and irresponsible choice of identity.

....No of course they can't, Life FM/Bang FM have legally changed their name through Ofcom and the legal system, although I'm surprised they are allowed to call it the same name as a long-runing local station without the risk of causing a lot of confusion - which is in no doubt happening as we speak.

It seems that these stations are incapable of thinking of anything original. As for the pirate beat 1019 haven't picked it up for ages?

Fair enough. Don't think I'd even hear a slight trace of 102.0 on 101.9 with the Sony. It's that good!

....101.9 are barely even covering their own area properly at the moment. From what I know they use decent gear and they're using a good aerial, it's just the site which is the major flaw.

Still a rubbish station

The Beat is just as shit as Bang. It reminds me of when muppets of the general public, (you know, they ask you that dreaded question - "so what do you do for a living?" You know that you're going to have to ask them that same question in return, aware that they've not listened to and/or understood what you have said, but really don't want to as you know the reply is going to be something along the lines of, "I count plywood") try to have a conversation with people that can play a musical instrument.

"I bet you've got good rhythm, I bet you can feel the beat of this song" or "this one's got a good beat, hasn't it".

If you have no talent you can have a license it seems leave the professional presenting to pirate djs and keep them out of the system, somthing very back to front with radio these days?
