Hi Guys,
I know most people here arn't anywhere near as old as I am - BUT for those that don't know, in the pre internet days we got all our radio goss from a newsletter called Anoraks UK which was mailed every week to subscribers. It was ace. Anoraks UK was run by a couple from Blackpool, Barrie and Ruth Johnson.
In addition to their 'weekly report' they sold all sorts of related merchandise, were the UK agents for Voice of Peace radio in Israel, and kept a close eye on the massive pirate scene in Southern Ireland.
Radio Caroline have just announced that Barrie has passed away this week, and I felt it shouldn't go unmentioned here, since there's a (few) of us old ones still around

RIP Barrie

Sad News Mr Carousel! :(
It seems the older we get, the more people we lose! :(
I remember starting my electronics interest in the mid 80s, Information and guidance was so hard to find back then!
My father was a massive inspiration to me! Electrical engineer by trade and CB enthusiast (retired now) I owe it all to him! Knowledge is a great gift and if we can pass it on to the next generations?
Memories will live on!! :)

Barrie was a good guy - the type who liked to help however he could. Apart from the Anoraks UK Newsletter, he also ran a couple of Mailing Addresses for various stations. I remember being introduced to him in a Transport Café near Preston - a very long time ago!

Another sad loss, I never met him but it seems he was a nice bloke. The Irish and Merseyside pirate scenes in the 80's (Stu and I are about the same age) were a big part of what got me into this in the first place and Barrie was involved in both. He inspired others to produce similar Anoraks-type newsletters and if I remember correctly, he used to sell Medium Wave antenna kits by mail order.

It occured to me that I might still have my copies of the 'weekly report' stashed in the loft somewhere. I toyed with finding and scanning them - it appears there is no need. The whole lot has been archived here, and with it some good memories.
