Haha, yeah and they need to raise their listener peak from 150 because when it's 'maxed out' people can't listen.

I'm surprised it's as low as 150 for a station like Kool.

I'm not surprised at all. Like it or not, their choice of music is rather niche these days.
Just look at the contents of the top 40 over the last few years: in the late 80s, 90s and into this century, darnce music was well represented. These days you have the bland leading the bland, with wimpy , meaningless drivelling pop, fronted by "reality TV stars". That's what's selling to today's kids. All the niche styles - D&B, hardcore, grime, and the rest - are just much too niche for the mainstream today.
I'm amazed that formerly big name like Kool can manage to get as many as 150 listeners on line. If they were on air too, that might add another 50. Their day is past.
We're going to have to wait for the Next Big Thing, and that will probably require the deaths of Simon Cowell and the rest of the middle-aged morons running what passes for the British music industry today. We need some high quality new music, carefully crafted with foresight and skill.
You have to remember - simple and cheap computer technology has put sound recording and editing in the hands of anyone who wants to do it. No experience or real ability necessary. The record companies discovered that they didn't need studios any more since all their "artists" were putting their crap together in their back bedrooms. The free distribution of music over the interweb has mostly killed off the big record companies - they just haven't stopped twitching yet!

In context - dnbradio.com, who have a pretty decent, ranked domain name (i.e. you search for "drum and bass radio" and they come up first or second in the list) and have no transmitter, top 500 listeners regularly.
Fair enough Albert, I pretty much agree with what you've said, even it being niche. I play DnB myself, as well as other genres, and it is niche. I just don't see it being THAT niche, especially for a station like Kool. Something has to have gone wrong somewhere. My point being - the people that liked DnB in the past almost certainly still like DnB.
The death of simon cowell [sic] could not come sooner. Absolute prick.
There are some new artists doing their own thing in their bedrooms, producing quality output. Jordan O'Regan for example. Perhaps not your cup of tea, but it is mine and it hits the spot. Right on the money.

Good music these days is hard to find and pop music has never been worse and the growth of people listening to speach only radio is on the increase these days

You're right about speech radio - but so much of it in this country is just ruddy phone-ins.
The other growth market is the "Oldies" format station. One of the most successful formats in the 'States is the "Country Oldies" - nothing more recent than 1990 (typically). Not my choice of listening, but certainly indicative of the views of many listeners that most current music is just recycled dross.
I'm thinking of re-launching a "Rock Oldies" station - for us Rock Oldies!

Kool FM would only have 50 FM listeners LOL! Oh Albert come on mate Kool's still got a huge FM following and have had a big signal lately, shame it's still off but if any station's to have as little as 50 FM listeners it ain't ever gonna be Kool.
Anyway back on a POSITIVE NOTE big up the full Kool crew each and every, a lot of hard work in the past 25 years over coming many problems and still keeping solid in the scene! Here's to the next 25 years of the Kool with a K.
