Concerns about being too close to high power TV panels

Hi guys,

I am just wondering how safe it is to be close to high power TV transmitter panels a few kW's??
So say for example there is a TV transmission pole on the top of a cell phone type of mast with a platform we plan to stand on not very far below it (just a couple of metres or so)
Would there be risk of RF burns being close to them or any other problems like frying away my bollocks?
All help is highly appreicated.

15 to 30 watts is enough to make my light bulb come on I find. they are way more power

Depends if they’re directional or not. You are at less risk if you’re behind a panel antenna.

I wouldn’t go anywhere near tv transmitters. They put out huge amounts of RF, and to work on them they usually switch them off so that has to tell you something.

The same with high powered radio stations like radio 2 on the wrotham mast.

For broadcast you can use something like FMScan to look up the specific site and find the power - if there is FM and TV you need to look up both. Don't touch anything antenna like and if it is many Kilowatts then stay the fuck away. Best of luck if you are going to chance it!

Yes I think they are directional with 180 degrees radiation pattern but I am not 100% sure about this.
I think there is also high power pager transmitter antennas on this tower but it has not caused any problems for people in the past but the TV transmitters were recently power increased from a couple of hundred watts to a couple of thousand which is my only concern as they are quite close to the top part we will need to stand at and we might need to spend a little while there to get it all set up, so don't want to fry the last of our brain or sperm cells.

Thanks guys
