Iv put together the stripped down monrds and the sinus version of the monrds encoder, but both are making horrible noise on the carrier. Almost like the old dial up sounds. The 150uH filters out most of it, so I put another 150uH on to filter out the last of it but then it filters out the RDS aswell. What could be done to get rid of it ? Also I removed the LED because that also creates noise.

I never had this problem with the Vincent RDS design. Only MonRDS.

What sort of power supply are you using?

Bench power supply which is super clean. I could turn the volume down but wouldn’t that turn down the RDS volume aswell ?

Something must be seriously wrong? Certainly i have never experienced noise from the LEDs?

A small 'Burbling' noise at very VERY high volumes yes!

The 150uH and 47nF are pretty spot on for the filter! Altering these will introduce distortion to the waveform.

Also check the RC filter on the Data modulation is correct?

About 10 years ago I bought a very cheap little RDS thing on eBay and it had little green and red LEDs which constantly flashed one after the other to indicate the RDS is working.
....Anyway one thing I did notice was when the RDS level was up too high and giving that nasty high pitched sound on the carrier I could hear that sound slightly changing in pitch as the LEDs flashed, but when the RDS level was set correctly it was OK.
As Sinus says those nasty high pitched 'burbling' noises should only be noticeable if the RDS level is too high, is there any chance you can record the sound, like on Audacity etc and upload what the noise sounds like?

xxl can you put a picture a picture please of the other mon rds because my old rds have the same problem it was copied from an italian website , confirm please, even the dps please correct me isnt the dynamic ps so it must scroll or no

I cannot comment on Tecks past experience on RDS? But he is right! There is no perfect setting for RDS due to many factors? But it should only be a tiny fraction of your overall modulation.

Maxing out gains will not make you sound like Radio 1!

Noise is also a symptom of poor grounding! I dont know what your setup is? Try to use one ground point for all components of your system and signal connections should be shielded.

I’ll post the sound soon. It’s not the high pitch RDS noise. If you remove the 150uh inductor to ground, that is the sound it makes when turned up. If you go over 150uh to filter it out more, the RDS signal goes aswell.

Sinus have have a software or a script that can take the nowplaying txt file and make it scroll , i saw andold software that make ps scrolling from a static txt , cause monrds accept dps and i can not figure it out from nowplaying txt from zara or other it is not scrolling , i saw a video where someone make a kind of script cambiar txt that can make the static ps be dps scroll show it is then shown like the RT

You probably need a bigger budget RDS encoder for something like that. This is throw away gear. Something you wouldn’t be too bothered about loosing to authority’s.

@xxl rds level is too hi , but no one say how do you fine tune thoses two pot , you have to look at the drawing .

That noise isn’t the 58khz RDS carrier. It’s noise from something else.

That sounds like data bursts almost like a 56k modem/fax machine kind of sound.

That’s the noise you get on this RDS encoder. What is causing it ?

Btw the sound sample has been recorded and amplified so you can hear it. It’s only that loud of you turn your stereo/receiver volume up full blast. But I can still hear it at regular listening volume.

What makes you think that increasing the amplitude of the RDS gives you better range?

I did find that newer version of the MONRDS software hidden in the archives of my PC and it says Dynamic RDS is supported? However i have never attempted to get it working.

As you suggest, Some kind of script needs to be running for functionality?

I am not sure it is much use to a pirate? But i will see if i can get it working.
