Paull Barnett passed away this morning, he was the owner of Radio North 846 AM.

coming to Ireland , R.I.P...

R.I.P Paul, the 846 signal got into the south of Ireland quite well, also very clear around the Giants Causeway when we went there for a holiday break last year. Quite an eclectic range of programming on the station but good audio and a strong signal.

:whistle thankyou for your kind words, I saw my dad as a titan and it seems from all the internet posts about his passing, it seems I was not the only one. His life was radio, being a "disc jockey" and building transmitters, raising huge Ariel's and being a constant in so many people's lives from WABC in the early 80's to Gem Am Off-shores such as MANX and finally owner operator of
hit Pirate station RADIO NORTH. I wish I was more like him. Thankyou all again

Paul really was a gentleman and his enthusiasm and knowledge of radio was great to be around. He always had an interesting story to tell when I saw him. A great loss to the radio world in Ireland.

Yes - he was one of the good ones! I gave him some crystals and temperature-compensated crystal VCO modules for his transmitters. I'd bought a whole lot of them when we got a contract for a station (covering sports) in France. They'd been allocated 846 and 864 kHz, and I had lots of spares for both frequencies (and no use for them anymore).
