Would a little 7-watt cover the site or would it need a bigger TX?
Be great to run one from a car and battery like them new ones you can now buy and it would run for plenty of hours.

Be careful theres ofcom bods with analysers at all the big festivals. Officially to make sure all the wireless mic, camera etc users stay on the right frequency but you can bet theyd jump on the chance to track a pirate

We used to cover festivals - usually from a couple of miles off-site, using a directional aerial and as little power as would be enough to give reasonable coverage over the site. I found one of the little battery-powered rigs in my garage recently. It gave an output anywhere in the band - in stereo - and would deliver anything from 2 - 10 Watts output.

30 years ago, our little festival stations were very popular, but these days nobody has a portable radio with them, so it's a waste of time.

They all ready have their own station anyway so prob just no point.

We used to get to the 300Mhz studio-transmitter link and get our own show to go on....

Also agree with Albert no one would be listening on site anyway.

What could work is to target motorists on their way to the site. Go out early morning hours and put up signs on lampposts fences etc saying tune to 92.0 (or whatever) for glasto news. Theres some decent hills in the area so with a 100w rig and good choice of site you could get them as soon as they leave the M5

Would probably get a decent audience for the day then disappear before anyone could track it. Maybe pop up again on Monday when everyones headed home.

Back in 86 when I went they had their own station, Radio Avalon, broadcast from the site. It operated on AM and FM from what I remember, I went and had a chat with them, their location being obvious. It was a long time ago but they didn't seem arsed about official intervention

Not sure what the battery is that gives to most bang for a buck. Maybe a bunch of 3000mah 18650 batteries?
But you would need to balance charge them.

its probably all on iplayer so theres no need for a station at the event, i'm not saying you shouldn't, capital set up station for taylor, they didn’t for glasto, it is still on dab. I think it would hard to get a transmitter in, they don’t allow you to take your own drinks in, maybe a little in car transmitter with the frequency outside of the tent, tune to 102 for jazz or Dua, would anyone be tuning about at a feasitval. I imagine for an official radio station it would be 300mw or a watt, the smallest transmitter in the biggest box
