How to get mold odor out of old tube gear.

Post by EFR » Mon Jul 29, 2024 6:28 am

Lets ask here, I have couple rigs in garage and now one linear more. These all have very strong mold odor on them, seems like transformers are worst stink bombs.

Problem is that wife starts oscillate if I carry them in the house.

Vinegar was nice way to get smell out of chassis parts etc, and it also did clean them shine like new.

Any tricks to get smell out of these transformers?

Try to get them working in the garage first, for some good hours until the heat bakes the moisture out.

These rigs work, linear needs some care.

Heat obly makes smell worse.

Heat makes that smell brutal, I had that 814 rig on yesterday about 4 hours to dummyload, garage door was open with fan circulating air in and out. Whole 80m² garage smells now like WW2 bunker....

You could try spraying white vinegar solution, just a very fine sprays, then the next day try powering it up, don’t plug it in whilst you spray.

I have an ozone generator, I have used it to get mold out of books etc placing them with ozone machine in a cardboard box.

I was thinking if I just get big box and put these rigs in it and let that ozone do its thing in it.
