RISK FM 107.1
Heres a recording i found of RISK FM! I used to listen to them in the mid 90s
they broadcast for a few years before CHOICE FM took the dial!
If anyone has any other recordings of them? it would be great to hear them again!

I remember when the DTI wiped them out with a 1khz tone around 1998 with a much stronger signal than what Risk was.

The good old days. When people done radio for the love of the music. No haters. No jelousy. No rig thieves.radio-berlin wrote:The good old days of radio, when music was banging and pirates had a reall good vibe about them!
Then killer didn't get his job seekers allowance. And now he travels the whole length of the country to steal a 100 pound transmitter. And threatens your family with violence. Just for broadcasting some music.
What a shame that pirate radio has gone like this. Bring back the days when radio could be enjoyed by everyone.

Sadly you are right Mr stack!
Radio should be about the music, giving people an alternative to the commercial crap that is available now!
Pirate radio was about fighting the authorities and for our rights! not eachother! selling dials and stealing rigs is bullsh*t!! Ofcom probly welcome this behavior cos it makes thier job easier?

Re: RISK FM 107.1
We were on blocks in Waltham Forest. From Oliver Close, next to Leyton Orient to finishing it's days on the blue block at Boundary Road E17, sharing with 2 other stations and even had a station on the red block next to us..
All of those blocks are knocked down now as are all the blocks in that area, so I don't suppose it will harm naming those that shared with us, it was Erotic and Shine or Pleasure as they were called before the relaunch/rebrand on our block and Eruption on the red block next door during one of their comeback times, not on 101.3 though at that time because Erotic was using that frequency, think it was 94 from memory.. If admin thinks this paragraph is bait, please edit it.
Beginning of the end was a studio raid on carnival weekend, while Scott Garcia was doing a guest show just after releasing 'It's a London Thing' then Choice took 107.1, we moved frequencies a few times trying to find a new home and faded away....
Best times of my life, fucking loved it.... Pirate radio never leaves you, I still pass blocks now thinking about how good they'd be...lol

Re: RISK FM 107.1
That Pleasure 87.7 thing was whacking out from there, I remember in early 1997 we drove from Byfleet in Surrey to Maidstone in Kent and were locked all the way. The only station we could hear in Maidstone and it was clear.
Do you remember when the DTI sent out a tone over your frequency in early/mid 1998? Was 5 signal bars out of 5 in Brixton where as Risk was only 2 bars so it flattened you!

I have a vague recollection of it, but I lived about a mile north of the TX site, so it would have taken some serious power to wipe me out...lol

Re: RISK FM 107.1
After Risk I put Key FM on 87.6, (was on 106 running tests for a couple of weeks) initially running it off Wanstead flats until we pissed the caretaker off then on Cathall and finally to St Michaels Tower - Gosport Road E17, which I think is the block you said you first went on.
Dyke Court on the Gosport estate (the small block) had loads of pirate studios in, once they started moving people out ready for demolition it became squat heaven...lol Another station was raided once, while we were in the same block on a different floor..
Waltham Forest had so many class tower blocks, was pirate city for years! Chingford Hall, Oliver Close, Cathall, Wanstead Flats, Gosport Estate, Beaumont Estate and Boundary road... Every estate except Gosport (which only had 1 block) had multiple blocks and most had pirates on...lol Every block apart from the 2 at Wanstead are gone now.
Think you're right regarding Eruption, was 104.

Key was up and running, we had some great DJ's with a full schedule and were booming out, quite funny you mention Criminal Records, Mickey was my silent partner in the station. Not sure what happened to him, think he emigrated after he closed the shop. Often wonder how he's getting on.
