Sometimes people get annoyed when old threads get dug back out of their graves (so to speak), but I actually quite enjoyed reading back through this thread again after almost 5 years.

Yeh Man!! This brought back so many great memories of my teenage days!
Not just the radio but also life on the estates, Especially Boundary Road! Meeting up in our little crew, Putting what little money we had together to get a nice smoke and a can of beer each.
The Towerblocks were far from luxury to say the least? But i wouldnt change it! Great times!

Re: RISK FM 107.1
Crazy that it was coming from the same town as where you live and you didn't even realise, no wonder it got out right over London deep into north west Surrey on just 100w back then as it's good ground where you are (as you know) - and especially with a dirty great 20+ storey tower block on the top.
....Although I only listened to it a few times Risk 107.1 are certainly down in my favourite old pirate radio memories because never in my life had I ever heard the DTi put a 1 KHz tone over the top of any other pirate before and I haven't ever since. (this was back in early 1998)

Haha! The rig was most likely just above my head!
I was trying to find some pictures of the Boundary Estate? Yet only found one decent pic?
There were three blocks in total each one with coloured panels (Red, Green and Blue I think)
The block seen in the far distance would either be Oliver Close or Gosport Road? (Gosport i suspect) Not sure of the orientation anymore as the area has changed so much over the years.

Nice One Teck!
Yeh it has to be Gosport road (St Michaels Tower) in the background as it was only a two minute walk from Boundary Road.
I will never forget standing on the very top of St Michaels Tower looking over the edge! The feeling of nervousness and the stunning views was such a rush!

I have to say I do love the old Brutalistic Soviet looking tower blocks like those! In all fairness it's not hard to see why they would've wanted to pull them down but it's a real shame.
.....I mean you either love them or hate them and no doubt 99% of the other people couldn't stand the site of them, but I am in that other 1%.

Re: RISK FM 107.1
Haha! Yeh its funny that you mention the Soviet style as there is a underlying theme to all these Estates!
They was built on social construct to keep the working class satisfied!
Each had a living quarters, A convenience store and the most iconic of all!!! A local Pub!
I guess as wealth grew around these areas, These communities felt somewhat left behind?
The most powerfull feeling that resonates with me and you is that these communities had a mutual respect for eachother! It was never perfect? But i loved the dramas as much as the good times!

When Eruption left 101.3 fm in late1997 , they moved for a short period of time on 94 fm. Then moved to 104 fm. Then pure went on 94fm around 1999 if memory serves me correct. Risk fm was a good station from what I remember of it ..

From memory the towers were James Dixon, Walter Saville and I cant recall the last one, also didn't Risk use Oliver Road Estate blocks at some stage.sinus trouble wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 12:45 am Haha! The rig was most likely just above my head!

I remember going up on the blocks at Boundary before 2000 and the doors to the roof had a gas torch taken to them to gain entry these must have been the days before people had there hands on the Gerda master lol
