Re: Anyone know anything about this 1W Transmitter?
My friend bought one of these a few months ago and is still using it, so it's reliable and definitely provides 1W or just over.
Not sure if the output is clean or not, but it doesn't look like there's much filtering going on.
These were selling really slowly last year, but I've noticed that they're selling quite fast now - so hopefully, somebody with some RF knowledge should come along and give a decent evaluation of it soon.

I just bought one of these and the spectral purity is at least -60dBc for everything (spurious and harmonics). It might be even better, but my analyser can't go that far down.

It seems like it has the same PLL design as the 300mW and 1W Dutch drivers but has the same exciter design as the old BW 1w PLL.

Does anyone know what the purpose of the silver Toko coil without the slug serves?

I think it acts as a fixed inductor which is also shielded.

Yes. It is shielded oscillator coil.Maximus wrote:I think it acts as a fixed inductor which is also shielded.

Yes I do, Its fine but I would worry about running next large power amps, the OSC runs at 100 Mhz. As I am sure you know this can cause problems when it is used next to hi power Amplifiers. But it is a well made board. I would certainly say use a switch mode power supply if you want to run next to any sizable Amp. Its basically an old Broadcast warehouse board revamped, he's` running at 100Mhz and taken the doubling stage out. Go to http://radio.xtreamlab.net/bc-ware-1w-pll.html

I think it looks more based on the later version which came out after the one on that link.

I used that back in the day, great tx on its own, produced a good Watt out of 4427, but next to a 100+ Watt AMP, Direct frequency OSC = hummmm. Thats why we stick to half frequency OSC doublers. cos you can stick them next to high power Amps with little issues. I used that device once, but Never used it again. Good bit of kit for RSL 1 Watt applications. I think Scott and Roger made it for that purpose anyway.

We used them around 99/2000 and used to fix them to the side of the inside of the box without any problems but when placed under or next to the PA there could be problems unless they were screened.
The later version in my picture above was fine as it used frequency doubling but it was a bit larger in size.

Re: Anyone know anything about this 1W Transmitter?
I never used the revised version, I didn't see the later Doubling version. Roger and Scott have left us all behind. Roger was the first person I bought a rig off, it was 10 Watts, we lasted about 5 Days before the DTI came round, back in 1987 we were the first Pirate in Surrey, the Press made a big deal of it. I remember looking inside the Maplin black box, I remember thinking, there's nothing in it, I thought I can make that. And a lot of of time later I could. I have retired from the game, so I build for friends. And just enjoy it! And that's what its all about, do you not think?

Re: Anyone know anything about this 1W Transmitter?
I can 100% confirm it's a 16F628A. I was just on the phone to my pal, and he could easily read the PIC ID.
Anyone noticed how quick these driver boards have started to shift since this thread started? Lol.
