The best way is by using 2 dipoles.

I think the best way would be to buy it from me... [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]teckniqs wrote:The best way is by using 2 dipoles.
Twin stack is basically two dipoles (most common), one above the other, separated usually about 2.3m (center to center) and connected to power divider.
You have many designs and calculations on the net for both dipoles and Wilkinson power dividers.

Lol yh I get the dipole bit. We was using single dipole on a big block and was getting out quite far but unfortunately weve had to access a smaller block and so it's time for a double to go up . I've herd of so many ways of doing it but would like some original pirate's advice instead of some dinlo that reads books and think they kno it all . All help much appreciated

Re: What is the best way to make a twin stack
There is no "original pirate way". Just right and wrong. Point is to get radiated field more donut shaped then sphere shaped, which is defined by distance between dipoles. Splitter coul be done easy with two 75ohm cables but it would not be so good. As i said, google for Wilkinson splitter and find design which includes square and round pipe. For dipoles i take you have source...

Re: What is the best way to make a twin stack
Most pirates just use 75ohm coax to act as the splitter between the dipoles, as Pjeva said there are many ways of doing it, if you don't own an antenna analyser and swr meter I would advise you to just stick with the singles, when you look at the loss on the analyser of the multiplied length of 75ohm combiner coax you do have to question if it's even worth doing, making a nicely tuned double is not a quick job it takes time and it's a right pain in the arse! If you want a perfectly tuned double you would have to use the square tube formula as mentioned above, again by Pjeva, it's funny me and the engineer was only talking about this earlier on this afternoon
Re: What is the best way to make a twin stack
there are many ways to make the wilkinson splitters too, making things like this is what is called the black art of radio, ive found the best way to do this kind of thing is to try all versions, work out time and cost against practicality and performance, but as i say its up to you to do the research and testing because everyone's results will be slightly different due to technique and materials, ide say honestly you would be better off taking up preja's offer and purchase one if your not sure what you are doing
