Anyone tried this cheap RDVV driver?

Everything technical about radio can be discussed here, whether it's transmitting or receiving. Guides, charts, diagrams, etc. are all welcome.

Anyone tried this cheap RDVV driver?

Post by MiXiN » Sat Jul 23, 2016 1:28 am

I'm going to be buying a Pira CZ limiter/compressor off this seller in a few days, so am thinking of adding one of these to the order as well - http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/FM-TRANSMITTER- ... nav=SEARCH

I bought an 80mW RDVV off him a while ago, but have since lost/misplaced it and didn't get time to properly test it; I just know it worked, although the final got real hot for a TO92 plastic Transistor.

I think I recall someone buying this 1W on another forum, or maybe here, but I might be mistaken.

I've PM'd the seller and he claims this uses a Chinese 2SC1971 as the legit ones are difficult to find.

So, has anyone used this cheap 1W RDVV, and if so, how did it perform?

I bought one a while back, you probably remember.

Turns out it was DOA and one of the chips were duff, it also had some of the wrong resistors in it so it was only capable giving out one watt. The 5511 chip and correct resistors have been replaced and it's now working OK giving around 6w at 12v.

Bought one of them compressor limiters off him recently the compression side of the board seems to work but the limiter isn't great at all, I'm pretty sure when I compared it to the design off the pira website he has made variations to parts and circuitry which seems to have effected the performance because I have heard good reviews on the pira one if built correctly. As Teck said once he replaced variations in the rdvv he got and overall better performance so this may also be the case with comp/lim

I've built a couple of the pira limiters from the schematic/pcb layout on the pira website without problem, from reading posts on here about what people have bought from him in the past, the guy seems to copy proven good designs adds his touch of magic and screws them up.

The RDVV has now sold, but not to worry. If he relists one I'll take a punt anyway as they're so cheap; Can't even feed my family of 6 for £23 a day, so it's no loss.

Teckniqs - Yes, I remember now it was you. Can you recall which Resistors were the wrong value and point me to the schematic that he's copied this from?

When I PM'D the seller he stated that the provided 2sc1971 was a Chinese fake as he couldn't source Mitsubishi originals, so as I have a couple of legit ones here it's a good start!

I might give one of these a try. Quite a good price as well:

I don't like the screw block RF connectors and some of the parts looks a bit cheap. Doesn't look like a broadband design and requires a smaller tuning tool for thos tiny yellow trimmers. How much does it convert in to GBP?

It converts to just over £20+ shipping from Indonesia.
I'd definitely remove the screw terminals and good point about the trimmers.

Google translate from the website:
pll ic mc145152 receipts from motorola able to cover wide frequency which began 85-145 mhz, but are only used for broadcast purposes in 87.5-108 MHz freq. 4-5 watts of output power at a voltage of 12.5 volts.
details of the components used VCO using dual gate bf961, buffer using the c3355 and c2053. The final use are all guaranteed original c1971.
frequency setting using dipswit, setting procedures will be included in the delivery package.

can also be booked for another frequency. such as 65-87 mhz. or in the 175-185 mhz freq at a special price.

With a few little alterations, I think that Tokopedia 5W TX would be worth buying. I was going to buy one for the sake of £20 or whatever it costs, but the company don't seem to export to the UK.

Going back to the original subject, am I right in thinking the 1W Turkish RDVV as per the first post is this 8W RDVV that's been modified? Http://www.3-mtr.info/sales/RDVV%20NoTune%208W/

Thanks for the links by the way!
