Re: project 106.5
There RDS level needs to be turned down, It causing bad side bands both sides of the carrier. Can hear RDS noises under Heart and Rinse on my car radio.

Their RDS comes through on the Isle of Sheppey (Global) tuner even when the signal is crackling.

Re: project 106.5
Is it true that Project FM don't ever allow the use of a microphone and DJ's strictly can't bring their own??
Re: project 106.5
This station has an interesting problem at the minute, if you turn up the volume when it's on a blank carrier you can hear this kind of mechanical warbling noise fading in and out very fast.
I have had this same problem in the past when I set up my first stereo + rds multiplex using hardware based encoders. It seems to happen even when the levels are set up correctly with a modulation meter and the two pilots are 'synced' together.
Does anyone know what this is and how to cure it? I have not heard it on any other station before until now. The other stations that are in stereo with rds (without this problem), I assumed must be running stereotool.

Surely not, I agree with the ethos of keeping presenting to a minimum, but to have none at all makes the listener feel its an auto play computer.
Can't be too motivating if you DJ on there either

The stereo 19khz needs synchronising with the 57khz rds signal (so they are both in phase with each other) if you just run then standalone together you get the warbling noises2000 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2017 1:38 am This station has an interesting problem at the minute, if you turn up the volume when it's on a blank carrier you can hear this kind of mechanical warbling noise fading in and out very fast.

Re: project 106.5
They seem stronger than ever tonight the rds is off also
Re: project 106.5
Yes that warbling noise was happening even with the two pilots 'synced' together, I had an oscilloscope on the output and could see the two traces, with the sync disabled the two traces run freely on the screen. As soon as the sync jumper (on the rds) is enabled the two signals 'lock' together (ie stop moving) but the warbling noise is still there. Although the traces are locked, there is a kind of jitter movement on the traces which I believe is causing the warbling noise to carry on.radio-berlin wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2017 9:42 pmThe stereo 19khz needs synchronising with the 57khz rds signal (so they are both in phase with each other) if you just run then standalone together you get the warbling noises2000 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2017 1:38 am This station has an interesting problem at the minute, if you turn up the volume when it's on a blank carrier you can hear this kind of mechanical warbling noise fading in and out very fast.

Tried two different stereo coders and also two different exciters, cant seem to solve it?
I see Project has switched its rds off now and the problem has gone away lol

Re: project 106.5
RDS & Stereo pilot synchronisation - s2000, your RDS board PLL isn't working well if there's jitter. I use a 12F509 to generate the three signals I need - 19kHz, 38 kHz and 57kHz - all in perfect, fixed phase relationships to each other. I get no noise at all due to the coders jittering. I'll put the details - and hex code on here for the benefit of whoever wants to get stereo / RDS properly cracked.
