New station?
There's a robot station that I've noticed twice in the last few weeks (I don't get to London much any more). It seems to be playing off a computer - mostly continuous music with the occasional ID of "Nomad Radio". The music policy is mostly oldies. They announced that they would be at several music festivals this summer.
First time I heard it was on 94.6MHz and the second time it was on 95.3MHz. It was in stereo and had an RDS reading "Test1234". It wasn't a huge signal, but seemed to be from a very high site since I could hear it in both Muswell Hill and Poplar.
I think that I recognised one of the voices on there, and if it's who I think it is, we're going to hear a lot more from it. It'll be technologically clever and made from the cheapest bits you could imagine!

"Why is my rig humming?"
"Because it doesn't know the words!"

That's one of the 4 new community stations that won a licence at the same time as flex did last year

The "Nomad" that I heard was nothing to do with Somalis!

My spy in Bristol heard "Nomad FM" last week. Stereo with "NFM" on the RDS. It was playing pop oldies from the 60s and 70s. It was on for just a few hours - presumably just a brief test.
Dan - is it yours?

Re: New station?
It's definitely a pirate.I just got an email from one of the people involved. They have a supply of little 20W rigs and are going to go around the UK and northern Europe to music festivals and similar events and put on a small pirate for a few days. It's called "Nomad FM" because it's always going to be wandering!
They were held up in building the rigs until Mitsubishi released more of the output FETs that they had designed for!
They're a bunch of crusty anarchists, but none the worse for that!
