It was up till not long ago afaik, worth typing the name into youtube. Megawatt Miles has a lot of interesting footage of the pirate setup and all that sort of stuff.

Re: Energy 106 belfast
I remember Lawrence and Miles coming 'round to my North London house to pick up some link gear for Energy. It ended up (as usual) with a serious drinking session.....
"Why is my rig humming?"
"Because it doesn't know the words!"

The ET nonsense started later. Miles became quite convinced by it all.

Heard it all.
I remember arriving at his place in Lurgan to collect a piece of apparatus for whoever I was tech for at the time, only to be met by himself with the words "They are forming a grid overhead". Anyway, Energy was cool, Big ass former NOVA, CSI TX, used to drool over that lol.. Been up the tower a few times for Energy and for a few others who ran stations from there..Thunder 107 run by George, and I remember being asked to climb the mast to check on a dead Broadcast Warehouse 300 TX that was planted at the top, powered by 48 volts running up a serious length of ldf450..turned out to be no more than a dud connection on an N-type, I think the station was called Galaxy. Apparently, the rig at the top of the mast pissed off Comreg when they came to visit at some stage..lol.. Great times on Alien Mountain!

Clutter Free - we probably met over there, perhaps at the Demesne!
I never went tower climbing up the mountain, but I was there when Miles replaced a BW exciter in one of the rigs (that kept humming) with an NRG one! Despite the huge local field strength, the NRG job was completely stable and didn't hum.

The VHS was for back-up when or if the link failed.

What sourcery was used to get from LJs shop to the hill?
Bloody long way. Never noticed a possible link antenna on photos of the mast (I know, doesn't mean it wasn't there!)
Magic was DSL...

Some transmission sites look like brewery’s with all the polished copper pipes and big bottles.

Yes, the Demense. On the few occasions I was there I only ever seen Mr Johnston fiddling away solo in his workshop.Albert H wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2019 9:36 am Clutter Free - we probably met over there, perhaps at the Demesne!

The first time I was there I remember passing red and white mast sections laying under trees on the drive up to the house, I knew I had the right house seeing those lol.
Those NRG exciters, the Pro 3 was the biz, used all around the border at one stage, in fact, operators used to buy a lot of them in kit form and they would be assembled on "rainy days". Almost every one of them ended up eventually in the safe hands of Comreg.

Re: Energy 106 belfast
The stream was sent DSL to Mary Ann's pub across the border in Aughnacloy, which had a direct line of sight to alien mountain.
TX/RX PC had I think Audio TX software. after processing etc, audio into a stereo coder, Mpx then stuffed into the video input of those 2 watt 2.4 GHz Chinese video senders feeding a parabolic grid antenna. 2.4 RX at alien land. Worked really well.

Ingenuious! Did Thunder and Energy get program the same way? I remember being very impressed with Magic's Instant Request thing - way ahead of it's time in 2002!Clutter Free wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2019 12:49 pm
