Re: lockdown boredom
My brother has just put 20 Watts up a tree, up a hill in the Pennines. He's playing 50s, 60s and 70s oldies from a USB stick plugged into a cheap Chinese player module that's bolted into his rig. I forgot to ask what frequency he's on. I'll let you know when I find out.
"Why is my rig humming?"
"Because it doesn't know the words!"

Assume that's an autonomous setup Albert? Interested to hear what he's using for power supply.Albert H wrote:My brother has just put 20 Watts up a tree, up a hill in the Pennines. Lol my mate rich has one up in a tree he uses a remote control to switch it on. He doesn't even need to be near it he has done it from a long distance. If anybody gets near it it automatically switches off. Smart guy he is lol

Re: lockdown boredom
If you wire up the vibration motor of a phone to a relay you can use that to turn the rig on and off.

Re: lockdown boredom
Here is mine:
I finally got the bits through the post needed to put it together - so the RDVV came from that Polestar Guy. I remember members on here saying it was bad version of the RDVV and would not lock very well. I was skeptical myself, as I've put together a few of the older design versions that need the earth shielding - but to my surprise it works well, locks from 88-108 and is clean. I also picked up one of them eBay stereo encoders from PCB Wizard and an RDS board again from that Polestar guy, but I'd not seen this design before.
I've wired it all in to a Chinese enclosure (excuse my bad CDT skills) and its all working. The only thing is that the RDS is a bit noisy. I noticed this when I was messing around with it before. At the moment, I don't have the serial to connect it to the computer (see the display on the receiver picture) but I'm hoping I can make it better once the cable comes. If not, I'll swap it out for another RDS board. Anyway - its working and cured some lockdown boredom. Next project make a Band Pass filter for a crappy Chinese transmitter board I got off eBay.

Re: lockdown boredom
I think it's a Shit RDS because its noisy with the volume down. There might be something I can do, once I can connect to its settings tho, as all I got is a pot on the board.

Re: lockdown boredom
OK finally got mine working and sounding OK. That Turkish RDS board seems noisy even with it correctly set up, so I bypassed the MPX in to the RDS and I got the RDS and MPX going in to the RDVV together and the noise problem has gone away. The RDS is working fine too. The input is a bit on the quiet side but sounds very clear. Output wise I'm getting just shy of 2 Watts on full power with 12volts. Output looks good on my SDR so all in all a good little project. Does anyone know the difference between the green and orange boards? I see the orange one has an extra IC on it.

Re: lockdown boredom
There is probably a resistor missing near the input of the output device which needs to be added and you should get about 5 to 6w.

Re: lockdown boredom
The cheapest you can get at the moment - the Turkish guy is not trading at the moment and PCB Wizard does not have anything broadcast related on his shop.
