Scrolling RDS using JMPX ?
JMPX only seems to provide static PS. could I edit the code in some way to allow scrolling ?
On using it on linux.

Ah that sucks. I’m having no joy with mpxgen either atm.

I did use your code and played around with it abit, but no joy. I need to buy another raspberry pi now aswell as iv actually put it up the site. Do you know if ffmpeg and mpxgen will run on a raspberrypi zero?

Re: Scrolling RDS using JMPX ?
I'd be surprised if it ran smoothly on a Raspberry Pi at all, I'd have thought there would be way too much stuttering. I know the actual program works but the Pi is just too slow to reliably keep the RDS and audio going.

Re: Scrolling RDS using JMPX ?
I've had no problem whatsoever with an "audio injector" card fitted to the I/O of a Raspberry Pi 3 or (better) a Pi 4. Using the Pi 4, I've been able to run JMPX (which DOES NOT do scrolling for several good reasons) and Audacity to play audio files from a big SSD connected to a USB port. I've got a small commercial station running using this approach during this "lockdown". The station operators log into the Pi remotely (using SSH) and upload new programmes every few hours.
Their previous set-up used a couple of Revox tape machines feeding an Innovonics David III audio processor / stereo coder, one of my early PROM-based RDS coders, and a 800 Watt rig. They had problems going to their site in the middle of the night to do tape changes, and asked for more automation and a means of remote upload. The sound of the new gear in indistinguishable from their old set-up. They're using the same rig (which has 100% redundancy of all sections for reliability).

Albert didn't say which country this was in.
We take new technology for granted in the uk but it's not like that everywhere.
Even the US is surprisingly backward and I can just imagine this happening at a commercial station over there.

I know the cases in music production and what is the philosophy behind it, but in broadcast I thought recording on tape was abandoned. Last year i used Studer a80 for broadcast was 2003. if we exclude sentimental components, there is no economic or technical benefit.

Re: Scrolling RDS using JMPX ?
For some stations money is really tight and their future is uncertain. For them I think It's more a question of economic necessity.

Re: Scrolling RDS using JMPX ?
second hand pc + freeware record/edit apps cost almost nothing. On the other hand, if we talk bout reel to reel, you have to pay more working hours to people(s) who make recording and editing. This is big economic difference between linear and non linear editing. As i said there is no sense.

Re: Scrolling RDS using JMPX ?
So scrolling rds on a raspberry pi is not possible ? I only want to use code programs like mpxgen. Stereo tool on a pi is ridiculous.

Re: Scrolling RDS using JMPX ?
If you get mpxgen using a Pi working then you could use make some sort of FiFo script to get mpxgen working with scrolling RDS but I couldn't help with that.

Re: Scrolling RDS using JMPX ?
Not by default no, but it does support FiFo to alter the RDS while it's running, but you'd have to set up a script to continually change the RDS to the FiFo file which is another task in itself.
