What’s this? Looks like half a veronica
Did Nrg/Veronica ever make one with an lcd screen? I didn’t think so? Is this just someone else’s work?
It was on eBay

16f628a and saa1057 or lm7001 it is a modified ,by redfield in an Spanish forum ,never tried ,but still a tuned vco .
I am going later to try if i can modify the vco to be wide band than use with a pira digital tuning no lcd.
this seems to me lm7001 .Oh la la la what a kid 2020 still using tune vco .i see many errors in .
merry Christmas 2020 everyone specially my good friends here.

I thought about using a frequency counter to show the frequency in a rack instead , would there be a suitable location on the pcb that could feed the frequency counter without messing up the rf feed to the rest of the circuit ? Just an idea as have already frequency counter

Did you buy it? That thing looks nasty and half of the stuff that guy sells doesn't even work properly anyway....

No I didn’t buy it but someone snapped it up quickly , it was cheap but I don’t need one I have the NRG pro III as exciter

NRG pro III as exciter is much pro and good ,i built one but without the output 4w .but love it sounds ,what kind of frequency counter you own ,is it a diy please show it,and yes you can add it i think with 1nf coupling cap at the end of the oscillator before or after the first driver ,the guys here who are much expert will tell you the rest ,but i like to see what frc you have to it .

One of these i have, it was cheap off eBay but goes upto 500mhz apprently
I got it for something like £9 delivered, but i see they go for more here

I've seen a few things like this before. The LCD just shows what has been sent from the PIC to the 1057, NOT the actual frequency.
The board layout's a bit rough, but it should work OK.
Lee - if you're going to use that counter module, be certain that the supply is well filtered so that the counter doesn't put noise where you don't want it. The input to those counter modules is pretty sensitive - just run a piece of sleeved wire parallel to the track feeding the "RF" indication transistor, and connect it to the counter live input. You'll see that you get a solid count without direct connection (even at 1 Watt rather than 4Watts).

Re: What’s this? Looks like half a veronica
There are two really good reasons for using the trimmer in the VCO. Stephen wanted to use just one dual varicap to keep parts price down and reduce the board area needed. The tuning diode can swing the oscillator over about 5 MHz. You don't want more than that to keep the modulation sensitivity right down (reducing the risk of hum), and allowing the varicap diode to operate in its most linear region, minimising modulation distortion.
Roger at Broadcast Warehouse made his VCO tune from 82 - 112 MHz for a ~9V change in varicap voltage. That meant 300 mV / MHz sensitivity. 75 kHz deviation was achieved at just 22.5mV of modulation. This meant that his boards always hummed!
The NRG VCO needs 775mV for 75 kHz deviation (at mid-band), so had that lovely quiet carrier....
Stephen and I were working on an improved oscillator which could be tuned across the whole band (it switched in padding capacitors) and would have exactly the same deviation sensitivity across the whole band. We built several prototypes and were getting close to the result we wanted when he had his first stroke....
