....But I still think that it's not the cheapest way to do it and looks like it will cost more to build than buying one of those ready made 99p eBay jobs (they work fine!).

Dunno where people are finding 48v to 12-15v converters for 99p. They’re all at least £2.99

I bought one about a year ago and it was about £1.13 delivered, it was an extra 14p more than the other one as it has a little digital LED display on it to show the input and output voltage but the same one without the voltage read out was 99p.

....From the UK they were about twice the price though, try looking at the ones from China.

Do the super cheap ones make an noise on the driver board ? Any major noise anyway. I’m not bothered about a slight buzz that you can only hear at max volume.
