Radio Merlin 6305KHz raided 16/09/2021
Found this on another forum that Radio Merlin on 6305KHz was raided by Ofcom on 16/09/201 approx 1145am
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/ind ... 436.0.html
It's a big shame but Merlin was believe they have been broadcasting 24/7 since March 2020.

It wasn't quite 24/7, but it was on more than it was off!
"Why is my rig humming?"
"Because it doesn't know the words!"

I'm pretty sure I picked this up around Summer 2004 on my Icom 706MkIIG (before Ofcom took it, but that's another story)

Obviously someone grassed on it. Probably some Ham radio operator as most of them hate pirates.
Running nearly 247 from your house in chelmsford is just asking for it on them bands.

Most hams don't hate pirates, in fact to many it's another interest. Pirates are doing radio for the love of it, after all.
And mostly building their own rigs. What's to hate? It's people being a nuisance on the amateur bands most object to.
The story behind the Merlin raid seems to be a complaint from a commercial user on the European mainland.

Some hams have a big chip on their shoulder about pirates but paradoxically some of the biggest pirates going are hams with rigs modified to work an all manner of "interesting frequencies". A guy I know once accidently sent out a CQ call complete with callsign on the local police frequency (back in the day when they were still on analogue) but fortunately nothing ever came of it.

I once listened to a late night QSO in the 1990's between broadcast pirates on 3.9MHz when a guy joined in and repeatedly gave his G4 callsign, not to criticise but to praise the operators for using home-brew valve gear. One of the ops told him that it would probably be safer if he didn't keep repeating who he was!
As regards Merlin, on another forum they have posted that "all charges against radio merlin have been dropped. Merlin will return next summer having a rest". Make of that what you will.
