I was checking some YT vids and seeing some am action and SSB The vids have around 6-7k hits which is many more than I thought there would be i thought it was dead and buried. So I would say yes it does seem to be making a come back. Lot of people going out in their cars and doing some DXing from hill tops. And some bushcraft geezers doing some makeshift aerial set ups. Quite fun to watch how they do it, probably ex miltary and keeping their skills up. Seems like quite a bit of fun I might be in the market for one. not a expensive hobby and a lot of fun. Look up cb mobile hill tops, seems to be thriving in the Lincoln and Norfolk area judging by accents. No licence fee either. I reckon people want to get outdoors these days internet doing their head in and they want to do something not fixating on a screen. I bet people are secretly running boots and burners still as well.

Maybe we will catch each other on the one nine in the near future.

I don't know whether there has been any extension of the permitted frequencies, but AM and SSB modes were legalised some time last year I believe.

Yep, you can use the mid block 26.965 - 27.405 on FM & SSB only.
CB radio, those were the days, reminds me of when I were a lad. Was on the AM before the 27/81 became legal.

We had some mains powered thing called a 'Ham Jumbo", don't know what the fuck it was but it was home based and went from around 25-30MHz. Worked pretty well with the Sirio 827 a good 40 mile radius with 18 watts output. Still none of them came anywhere near close to the Icom 706.

Ah yes, the Icom 706, just sold mine bloody thing kept developing a new fault virtually every time I switched it on. The first one I had was the old Mk1 HF, 6 & 2 meters, the second was a Mk2 G. Gonna get meself a yaesu 827 I think. A mates got one, to me it seems a far better rig, much nicer receiver with better DSP.
Yep had a Jumbo many years ago too, same guts as the concorde.

I was 13 when I got into CB in 1982 so now you know I'm an old f*cker. I also have had Icom 706's in the past..... and a 7000 and more recently a 7100. That could mean I am either a pirate or a licenced ham now. I will leave it there.

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm both. Tell you lot what gets me is these stuffy amateurs who have to do everything by the book. A pirate is a sin, well in my eyes we are not. We provide a service that people actually want and not do as we are told.

I have a Superstar 3900 as well as a heap of muppet/midband rigs.

Triple 5, 27.555 USB on SSB is still very busy when the propagation is right, but activity on UK 1 > 40 is at an all time low with only about 15 people audible within 30 miles of me on a good day.

There's no point spending money on CB gear now as the likes of Facebook, etc' have negated its purpose.

10 meters is open a lot at the moment, some good DXing to be had... so I'm told.

That was the only HAM band I wasn't permitted to use with the M3 license. (10m/28MHz)

It's all changed now, Foundation licence holders (M3/M6) can use nearly all HF bands but restricted to 10 Watts.... not that 10 Watts is a bad thing as you know.
