I have visited Lanzarote Many times! Power FM seems to be quite common there!

Its like a Kiss 100 style station which i assume is Commercial!

Radio Brian is in Gran Canaria which is Pirate! Im hoping to get a studio tour the next time i visit!

Well over half of that list are unlicensed although the situation is very different in Spain and in particular in the Canaries with most stations paying music royalties and tax. Most of the 'licensed' stations are operating on different frequencies to the license and higher power and using additional transmitters so you could probably say with the exception of RNE they are all pirate in some way

Well you learn something new everyday, I never knew that!

Luckily i have never had an encounter with the Authorities during my visits! The Police never seem to be in a hurry to their next Bust!!

The legalities of radio here are very complicated. Stations don't get raided in the way a UK station would. In the past (15+ years ago) some stations were fined for causing interference at Tenerife airport but that was after repeated requests by the telecommunications regulator to reduce power and related to a mountain site under the flight path that had multiple stations on it. Despite being asked nicely to turn down the power on a number of occasions the problem kept returning so eventually they had no choice and decided enough was enough and issued closure notices and fines
