Show us your rigs!

Everything technical about radio can be discussed here, whether it's transmitting or receiving. Guides, charts, diagrams, etc. are all welcome.

Lol heres one of my earliest rigs! Its quite crude but it worked! :)
The PA was my first ever and was made using a permanent marker and some etching fluid! :)
The output device was a BLF244 and easily gave out 16watt!!
Unfortunately it lacked a low pass filter!! :)

150w amp kit. Was testing it on a 100w dummy load in the other room for 10 minutes and totally forgot it was being overloaded. The thing pretty much burst into flames and solder was dripping off it.

The two decoupling caps were later replaced by a big 1kv 1nf. It didn't make any difference.

The only huge improvement was changing the 330pf input matching cap for a 44pf. Then the power levels were stable with a nice clean output.

^ I've got one of those boards somewhere. Isn't that the Dutch design?

Actually, that is ELENOS design ;-) for BLF177. They used to combine these 150w amps to get power and redudancy.

Tis indeed Tech. A group of us had a long convo because I couldn't get the proper PLL swing voltage. Turned out to be a 2.2uf cap fitted instead of a 22uf to pin 2 on the IC.

RF-HEAD really helped as well.

I really miss it and have been considering buying another one as I've got all the smd equipment etc.

The only problem is, it's pointless firing one up where I am as the legals are spaced 250khz apart and over deviate big style on massive 10kw arrays! Everybody's fighting for space and some even use 75us pre-emph and end up sounding like snakes.

The power is also up and down. Some stations must be putting out more than 10kw if you can hear them through a shitty handheld radio from the other side of a majorly dense city. Some days the signal is barely there, other days, especially sundays you can disconnect the aerials from your receivers.

Not to mention everyone swamping each other. as long as you've got the go ahead, you can do what the hell you like.

The main station, equivalent to radio 1 had humming/rf feedback in background during the short silences between sweepers :D

Whoops, thought you meant the exciter. Yes the amp is a mixture of Dutch & Elenos. However Elenos have substantially improved their designs. They only drive their amp modules/pallets to something like 70% if I remember correctly. A lot has happened in half a year.

I almost became a retailer for Elenos but work has been too busy. Plus I'd be too tempted to take the demo unit home and switch it on haha

Where about's is this? I've never heard of stations being 0.25MHz away from each other, the only station I've ever heard of on an offset frequency is the TV channel in NYC on 87.750MHz.

A lot of stations aren't listed, but trust me, there's plenty of swampage here. I'll up some pics of the aerial arrays. They're quite impressive, even by UK standards.

I'm guessing the amp on Sharky's functioning pic is Dutch?
