Old 92.4 Rig, found whist renovating tower block! Stratford, East London

Post by teckniqs » Wed Nov 13, 2024 3:44 pm

Saw this on Facebook, looks like someone's found an old De Ja rig on 92.4

....I remember someone else found an old Delight 103.0 rig from around yr2000 under a water tank in Wandsworth around 5 years ago as well.

Interesting, maybe council changed door system, locked it up and station could never get access again. Solid state probably works find maybe electrolytic caps have dried out.
The dial is Glowing 88-108 , spin the wheel to light those Red LEDs , see signal needle rise.

Hopefully it will get back to its owner or one the DJs that used to use it.

Looks like a 150w "J" rig.
(most people think the name begins with G)

I reckon just a quick dustpan and brushing off and it would be good to go.

....The person who found it was asked if he kept hold of it the following day and his reply was just simply "Gone". Wonder what he did with it, if anyone pops up on 92.4 soon we know why haha.

looks like one of the old budget boxes someone makes. Don't think that will be more than 100W

Yeah actually, when I first saw it I thought it looked a bit small, also the builder I mentioned did used to knock out a lower power rig of about 50 to 60w so it might be one of those. I'd completely forgotten about those lower power jobs, you reminded me.

....Shame the FB poster didn't take the lid off as it would have been nice to see inside it and what else is living inside it.

Thats a J 300w you can tell by the heatsink fins, the 70w and 150w had 10mm spaces between the fins on the aluminium heatsinks wheras the 300 had more compact fins with less spacing between each fin. The black pressed ally box is also shorter but deeper.

it's a 150
The 300W boxes are longer and you can see 2 extra screws next to the other PSU to mount a smaller PSU for the exciter and driver.

All the 300s I had from J used the same exciter that had the onboard x band receiver option that designs digital did for him, single 48v psu no secondary psu. M & N did the 300s in the longer chassis but J was almost same size as the 150 but slightly deeper for the larger heatsink.

Tested one of his 300w boxes on a power meter into dummyload a few years ago. It had two SD2941 together in push-pull.
When it was first switched on it shot right up to 390w and we were like "wow that's gonna f*cking thump"...and then just 5 minutes later it had dropped right down to 220w! :!:

I don't think he used that PA configuration for very long, he said too many people were sending them back with either one or both transistors blown, they got very hot in 24/7 use and because a large proportion of the London rig site techs use badly tuned/matched double stacks he usually configured the swr tripover as less sensitive to account for that and it resulted in the rigs getting red hot especially when jacked down the shit pipe with minimal freel air flow.

The best 300s I had were from M, they did 350 all day long no problems.
