Everything technical about radio can be discussed here, whether it's transmitting or receiving. Guides, charts, diagrams, etc. are all welcome.

RF network analyzer

Post by Marcel » Thu Jul 17, 2025 2:44 pm

Hi,

Without a network analyzer you have no idea what you are actually doing.

A network analyzer is ideal for measurements in the RF domain.

Antennas
Amplifiers (gain)
Coaxial cables and connections
Filters
Etc etc etc

You can't imagine how much you can measure, it is actually an indispensable measuring device if you are really serious about RF technology.

I have an Agilent ENA E5062A option 250 for sale, i know this doesn't really belong here but this is where the real technical guys are.
The sales section is more for someone looking for something that has already been made and/or tested.
I now have 3 RF network analyzers and that's a bit too much.

I rarely post anything, but I like to read along and that way I also learn something.

What are you measuring with? (spectrum or network analyzer)

Marcel

Im interested, but I dont think that after shipping it overseas and paying brexit taxes, would it still be cheap?

I mostly use a very ancient (but accurate and reliable) HP spectrum analyser I bought from John's Radio in Yorkshire late last century. I also have a Schlumberger 4031 (also old school) multi-function radio analyser (much better than the venerable Marconi job), a modern Anritsu LCD portable analyser and a decrepit HP Network Analyser that seldom gets fired up these days - it's more convenient to use a little handheld VNA! I also have a Marcomi Modulation Meter, and lots more....

The other instruments I often use include a couple of Tektronix 'scopes, Fluke multimeters, a homebrewed 8-digit Frequency Counter with an off-air frequency reference for accuracy, and various other bits of home-made test gear including an Antenna Noise Bridge. The Bridge is the easiest way to align aerials, and - along with a little Tecsun receiver - fits in my pocket!

The analyzer is in perfect condition almost like new.
Photos and ALL TEST are available upon request.

New price 14 years ago 24.500 euro ex VAT my price excluding any shipping 3000 euro.
Of course the device can also picked up personally in the Netherlands in the city of The Hague.

Albert,

I also had an HP8566B here, the thing was too heavy to lift, but it was a really nice analyzer with an analog feel.

Hmm, so it is in Netherlands, not in UK!

My friend will be there around december, if it isnt sold then, I might buy it.

How close can regular nordic HGV get your house?

No scratches, stains or other damage.........nothing.

I sometimes look on eBay, but you rarely come across this type of network analyzer in this condition.

This device has been used privately now and then and has never been in a lab or an ATE setup.

Marcel

Not the best pictures, but the traces (S11/S22 and S21/S12 overlap nicely, so no defective or damaged ports.
All photos above are WITHOUT calibration which could mask any errors.

I had years ago an HP 8711C but with an "update" it became an HP 8712C.
Then I only replaced the (tube)screen with a flat color screen.
This made it easier to separate the traces.
Nice VNA only very BIG and HEAVY.
