Re: caroline east anglia way
I can get 648 here durring the day in the backround the quailty is low on it, comes in better at night, they could use the old talk radio transmitters it would provide a good signal over the uk, don’t suppose it will ever happen.
There is nothing there on mw during the day radio 4/caroline (in the backround) radio 4 transmitter on 693 not sure were it comes from the reception is lousy on it, radio 5 909, talk radio 1089 (both good signals), station related to sunrise lyca on 963 (in the backround) akash radio 1323 (a bit bettter than caroline) asian radio bradford 1413 there but quite weak, norfolk 873, playing oldies too, suprized to see a bbc local station still on mw, that makes 8 transmitters total couting the 3 from talk sport.

Someone was relaying it 24/7 here in Suffolk on 107.5 for a few years up intil recently, but it seems to have vanished now. Weak signal though, was only covering Lakenheath village and immediate district.

Someone was relaying it here on 87.8, it only came in very weakly, suppose that might of been 10 years ago, years ago in early 2000’s I picked up one on 87.7, I get the feeling it was high power traveling long distance, though it could be some boarder station in ireland but who knows, they didn’t get clobbered by comreg back then. I last heard one pre 2020, think it may of been a community station east leeds fm that were kicking about, could of been unlicenced too.

The one I heard, which I think may of been east leeds fm, on 94.6 pre 2020 before I moved, I don't know if there might of been something there during lock down, it got abit confusing though I think read some were they had been given a licence or was it chapel fm (of course no relation to chapel roan lol) they never made it on air. They seemed to like having stations with chapel in them, suppose leeds is maybe alot like driving round south america on driver 2 or 3, were you get the noise of chapel. lol

Wonder if 10kw will increase the range by much, or just make the existing coverage area a bit stronger and louder...?
Here in West Suffolk the reception on 648 (omnipresent interference taken into account!) is moderate but nothing remarkable.

10kw is getting close to what they used to run from the ships back in the day. Got to imagine the coverage would be pretty good
Even at 4kw I can get them pretty clear at night in the nw midlands

I seem to remember that they had a 50Kw transmitter at some point, which was originally on the Caroline North ship but ended up on the Mi Amigo?

Re: caroline east anglia way
They have, but it'll still sound like it's coming through a sock! Their mod is appalling. Their useless DSPX processor is either set up wrongly, or it's defective. Their mod is consistently loud, but has a weird lack of anything much above 3.2kHz! We told Peter Moores about it, and even offered a free European Standard Inovonics 222 to get their mod right, but they know best.....marqueemoon wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 5:43 pm I see that Caroline have applied to OFCOM for more power on 648 (10Kw)...

Just for amusement, I relayed their satellite feed with proper mod on 666 kHz with around 1 kW a while ago. That sounded fine, and travelled at least as well as their Orfordness 648 kHz mess. I only ran it for a few hours, because I didn't want to "lose" the rig, and the site was due for a re-fit (it was a water tower), and I didn't want to give away the wiring and aerial, either! However, it was heard over a suprisingly large area, and would probably have done really well at night.
It looks like this summer is pretty much over, but I think that I'll do something on MW next summer, towards August 14th perhaps. There's a bunch of music enthusiasts that I know who'd love to put some programmes together......
"Why is my rig humming?"
"Because it doesn't know the words!"
