Re: Opinions on another driver?
Got the driver yesterday, only getting around 70-90mW output which is far less than the stated 500mW. I'm gonna see what he has to say....

Perhaps he'll suggest you just need an amplifier with more gain... let's say one with a BFR91 followed by 2 BFR96's in parallel, followed by...teckniqs wrote:Got the driver yesterday, only getting around 70-90mW output which is far less than the stated 500mW. I'm gonna see what he has to say....

If you want broadband output, same level output across the whole band, you must go with class A amplifier. And that means you have maximum of 30% of power rated for output device. And that is the best case scenario with class A. Could you check Techniqs if this is the case?

Re: Opinions on another driver?
Hahaha, funny posts off Analyser & Shuffy.
I was very close to buying one of these as well as the 1W version that the Turkish guy listed as they were so cheap, but I still fell for the 15w amp he's selling that's getting shit reports on the design.
Hope you have some luck Teckniqs, and keep us posted.

Re: Opinions on another driver?
Yeah I've got mine but haven't got the RD15 device for it yet.
....Contacted the seller about the PLL and explained about the low power and he said something about the 2sc2538 sometimes giving less power, I replyed that it wasn't fitted with the 500mW 2sc2538 device and was fitted with a 2sc2053 as shown in the picture on the board.
He offered to send me a couple of 2538's so gonna stick one of those in instead, if that fails gonna just stick a Motorola 4427 in it to shut it up!

Re: Opinions on another driver?
Good luck mate.
Did you receive the 1w version as well, and if so, how's that one performing?
Had a good luck at this 15w amplifier, and even with my very limited electronic skills I can tell there's no way that this is going to take 1.5w on the input - so as it stands, I'm really not sure what to do with it as my drivers put out much more than the 10 > 20mW that this thing requires.
I'm still not sure why he's made it such high gain with all the stages as opposed to just using the one RD15 FET.

I cant seem to see any rf matching on the front end of that amp, thers no inductors or coils. just looks like its decoupled on input with an attuenator. between the brf's there doesnt appear to be any matching either. Yes defo dont wack 1watt up its ass, Them bfr's dont even stick that out.
On one of your 1watt exciters put a 33 to 47ohm, 1 or 2watt resistor in line with inductor to final output stage, this should reduce your output power enough.

This is intended to amplify those BH chip based transmitters for car i think. Or integrated smd oscillators. That is why it is high gain.

Re: Opinions on another driver?
Received the RDVV but haven't had time to test it yet, the screen is plugged in with individual plugs for each wire instead of a block connector so I will have to take a few pictures of where each wire goes before I remove the screen. I'm a little baffled as to why the board is only doing 1w though when fitted with a 2sc1971, will have a good look upon testing this week....MiXiN wrote:Good luck mate.

What you have before that 2SC1971? It could be low drive, fake 2SC or bad match...teckniqs wrote:Received the RDVV but haven't had time to test it yet, the screen is plugged in with individual plugs for each wire instead of a block connector so I will have to take a few pictures of where each wire goes before I remove the screen. Yeah could be, I've got some more 1971 at home so I'll try another one and if that fails I'll replace its driver and let you know...

Re: Opinions on another driver?
To be fair I purchased his other LM7001PLL board off ebay and it has the 2538 installed, yet to test it, hopefully get to play with it later this week

Re: Opinions on another driver?
bought the 15w amp circuit over a year ago, find it struggled to put out over 8 watts, although i have questions around the quality of the rd15hvf1, been though 3 different suppliers and still not certain I have had a genuine version, from what I remember it doesn't do badly with a strong input but can't remember whether I ever pushed it to 1 watt

Re: Opinions on another driver?
Sent a PM to the Turkish guy on eBay asking how it's possible my amplifier will accept upto 1.5W, and he insists it's fine with a 1W drive. I'm not gonna risk it and will just attenuate the driver output.
On another note, the FM15 amplifier I bought off Enigma here in the UK is working very nicely. With a 1W driver it's producing 13W at 12.5V, so at the specified 15V it'll do more - and I'm using garbage RG58 and a cheap power meter so my readings are not necessarily accurate.
Asked before but got no reply... Anyone know of a source for legit Mitsubishi RD15HFV1 Transistors preferably in the UK?

Re: Opinions on another driver?
I bought them from mauri (dutchrfshop) and they all work very well. Also, they are pretty cheap.
