See them on Ebay but is an aerial worth over £100

Not sure if the comet cfm95 is up to much, but I'd stay clear of that a****f one as it just looks like one of those £20 CB Silver rod aerials that's been modified to me.
Not sure what planet that a****f guy is on, but the prices he asks for the gear he sells is taking the piss.

The Comet CFM95 is very good but only takes 200w which may not be enough for you. The Dominator takes more power but is quite expensive (about £300 for a genuine one, or £180 for a copy).

Re: 5/8 vertical ??
There is no such thing as "the best" aerial, in my opinion, as any performance-related improvement you make to any antenna has certain consequences. Whether the consequences are acceptable or not for your application may make it the best aerial for your application, but not necessarily the best in general.
You also have to bear in mind that most pirates don't have a clue what they are doing when it comes to tuning an aerial properly - the more engineered the radiation pattern, more complex the aerial and thus more difficult to tune. You cannot tune an aerial properly with a SWR meter alone.
A very good aerial will be one that is well tuned and matched, fed by the shortest length of coax possible, which is quite rare in pirate radio.

Lol bloody hell!! the prices these Antenna go for??
Im gonna go on dragons den selling dipoles!! Tuned and peforming just as good for less than 20 quid! Minted!!

The one and only reason id go for a 5/8 or 1/2 wave endfed is to look less obvious at the TX site!
You wont get any noticable difference otherwise!

bought one of these 3 years ago..
https://www.a****f.com/en/5-8-fm-transm ... ntenna.htm
it was only rated to 600w 4.8dBi.. 110 pound.
now they are 130 pound for 1kw.

Yep you need a network analyser and an anechoic chamber to properly tune an aerial.
Apparently the Sirio DP-100 dipole antennas get out fairly well. Especially when you double stack them.
The best I've used was the NRG 1/2 wave vertical until I melted it. I'm yet to see someone successfully build/copy one.

Re: 5/8 vertical ??
I let Bossman borrow my 50w 1/2 to copy, never saw it again... They're really not that difficult to make, if you have patience and dont mind winding and unwinding to get the coil correct.
But you need to test it on an analyser to make sure its resonant at the correct frequency.
I have a good PDF at home on it - i'll upload it later

Re: 5/8 vertical ??
That'd be great if you could upload the pdf Le Shark.
@powerfull, I think the aerials can be used roughly 3mhz either side of the centre tuned frequency.

I can't seem to find the PDF at the moment - it might be on another Drive somewhere, I'll have to have a good look for it.
What I did find was a Folder that has alot of useful files everyone should find useful, Calculators, Programs ( QY4, RFT, Eagle, SMC ) and some other bits.
I'll put up a new post in a sec. I'll keep looking for that PDF
