Following on from the Kiss FM thread, I thought I'd ask how you could start a station which plays purely dance music 24/7 like Kiss used to in the early days. Dance music does have a market and currently there isnt a legit commercial station that does (unless someone can tell me otherwise?) lots of the genres are still very popular esp DnB and house at the moment. Hardcore still has a big following as does trance, breaks, old skool etc. So what if someone came along with a hell of a lot of dosh and started up a station playing dance all day all night, would they break even? would they actually make money to keep it alive? or would they run at a loss?. Would the station be available to most of the country? and would there have to be a 'producer' who says what has to be played?. I know you have to adhere to the rules of legit radio and its not a walk in the park but can this work in this day and age?. Im surprised Rough Tempo are not on the FM, they are a really popular net station that plays out a lot of dnb for instance.
Perhaps Im just dreaming but wouldn't it be great if there was a station like this instead of just a few hours on a weekend for 'specialist' shows on big commercial stations. Online is fine but it can be harder and believe it or not people still listen to FM.
An all dance station like Kiss...

Re: An all dance station like Kiss...
there is a market indeed for dance, but the question is does that market have the money to make a station pay. that is a question that unfortunately i can't answer. getting across the whole country may give you a bigger audience and more potential for a bigger market and possibly an income but there is the costs of dab which would be the only way to get almost national coverage.
might certainly be something to look at as a case studdy if one could get info on their relevant costs?

I reckon it could work. Is Gaydio actually an FM station? and does it span across different parts of the UK? or just locked to one area?

Yes most people want fm rather than DAB all this if you love radio go digital bollocks is funded by the big station's try to switch fm of to save money, the real answer is the license fees are ridiculously out of reach
