Help needed with Pira Mini-RDS lock protected??
Hey everyone, I've got a old Pira Mini-RDS board which won't change the RDS readout.
I've tried it with 2 computers and it's still not working, I have a different RDS module which is programmed the same way which works fine but this one doesn't seem to be having it!
When I click 'send' I can hear the data being transferred to the RDS module quietly over the audio on a radio but it doesn't change.
I think it has been protected!! Does anybody know how to unlock it??? Appreciations.

Hi here it is. I've done a bit of research and found out that it needs to have 2x 2k resistors instead of 2x 4k7 resistors which is R8 and R9 but I'm not sure which the other one is only the 4k7 next to chip on bottom left. I think maybe the resistor next to RDS level. I will change them and see how it goes.

Sorry it was the one hidden underneath the 5v regulator.

I've changed both of the 4k7 to 2k2 resistor and still not working so I think the person who sold me it years ago might have locked it. Any ideas?

There is no as you call it “lock protection” in the software.
How did you connected the RDS to the computer, COM or LPT port?
Did you add the extra components for the COM or LPT connection?
You have to add these components, they are not on the board.
You also have to select the right port in the software.

Here is the schematic with the values for the board.

Hi, that is not the way I connected it so it looks like I was doing it wrong. I am using serial port and was doing it the way they showed me on the pira site I was told this was the way I should have done it. I will try it with the 3x820r,

Its a bit of a long shot? but the PIC socket on your picture looks like it could be a bit corroded?
With care not to bend the pins, you could remove the PIC and replace it again?
If the clock and data pins are not a perfect connection? it may not recieve instructions correctly?

Also Pin 1 on the PIC, a status LED can be connected to see when instructions have been sent? (blinks when running and stays on during write) Youd need to include a resistor in series with the LED to limit the current ofcourse! (between 1k and 2k)

Better buying a RDS-encoder from www.enigma-shop.com that has a USB port and is working perfect
A realy good price for that quality RDS
