I think as a safety precaution they have to switch them off, I remember years ago seeing my signal down on my phone and looking up at the local mast to see 3 guys up it wearing bright orange jackets.

I've done some reading and done some learning - you are right, I was wrong! It worries me a bit more about comms devices that use frequencies in that region (eg: WiFi, WImax, 4G...). Previously I thought it was resonance thing so nearby frequencies would not be an issue if it was high Q. Seems it is not resonance, so nearby frequencies could be an issue. Albeit lower power, but handhelds are very close to your brain that contains lots of water...thewisepranker wrote:That is simply not true. Please go and do some reading - you might learn something and it will only take a few minutes.NOYB wrote: Wisepranker - water molecules have several resonant frequencies, and one of them is around 2.4GHz which is no coincidence the frequency microwave ovens operate at - otherwise they wouldn't heat up your baked beans or whatever!
Hats off to Mr Wiserpranker

Yep - but those links they use on mobile towers are typically +21dBm max in my experience. Even if dish has 40dB gain, you are talking +61dBm - about same as radiated from the cellular sectors. Don't loook down a waveguide thoughsinus trouble wrote:As we all know, the highest risk of radiation is in front of the microwave parabolics which are more than likely to be facing away from the mast itself!
Magnetrons operate at silly powers (around a kilowatt) and are concentrated into a small cavity which intensifies the energy! not the same thing as a mast!
