Having listening to pirates for the past 28 years there's been too many stations and changes over the years. I'm not into drum and bass any more but if I have to pick one of all time it has to be Kool.

It would have to be Sheffield Community Radio (SCR) for me..From hearing their first broadcasts in April 89 brought a whole new outlook on music for me..Pretty professional most of the time too with excellent audio, again most of the time..

best pirate radio station in the region? Ireland has 16 pirates in total so i'll go nationwide. favourite current pirate has to be storm northeast 104.2, est 2002 owned by one of the lads from kiss106 in louth. pumping out commercial-free dance music 24/7. klub used to be good but now the playlist is too repetitive. Opentempo 105.1 is an excellent community service for Waterford city on the weekends

I know this is in London Pirates but since people are answering from further afield...
KFM, 94.2, Stockport, 1984. Hands down. No question.

It's hard to say about the stations in Bristol. They were all much the same I guess, but with varying degrees of quality. 90% were black owned and had a lot of Soul and Reggae, which was a good education for me personally. I really wanted to hear Hip Hop and House most of the time, but still kept listening because it was always good music anyway. When Hardcore and Jungle came along, they didn't feature as much as I would've liked from 1991 to 1993, but 94 onwards there were regular shows you could tune in to and more random ones that popped up here and there that you could get lucky and hear.
I can't give much opinion on a lot of the early ones as I was just starting to listen as they turned off for the licenses that were being offered in 1988. Out of the rest my faves were:
Emergency Radio was a purposely consistent high quality music station.
SYT for it's alternative / anarchistic approach and long late night Hardcore sessions.
Black FM on a Saturday afternoon with Mr H and HQ.
SPEC Radio
FPR which was one lad in east Bristol with a 3w rig that got out surprisingly well to my area.
Magnum Radio
Power FM
Passion FM
Ragga FM
Fantasy FM & Storm FM, neither of which lasted long but the only pure dance oriented stations that Bristol ever had.

I have a lot of time for vision radio actually. Some great shows on there, and it's possibly my favourite current pirate.
My personal favourite stations here in ireland were ministry 93.2 nova dance 94.6/7 and essential galaxy and energy 94. all dublin stations. Plenty of other decent stations around which are remembered fondly, but they were either before my time or out of anywhere where i could listen

Weekend rush. Defection and kool fm. All live from the hackney pirate park. Excellent stations. I used to also like station fm in the early 90s. But now its got to be vision.
Edit. Almost forgot, pulse 90.6 early 90s. Another must back then.
