Is Drum n Bass Dead? From a pirate's point of view?

Post by cheese101 » Sat Dec 12, 2020 3:35 pm

So I've been tuning around the London FM radio a little bit more recently and I very rarely hear Drum n Bass any more.
This this time 10 years ago it was everywhere up and down the dial but now it's mainly just House and Reggae I ever hear!
I'm not saying I never hear it because OK yeah sometimes but not very often and there are no pure Drum n Bass stations any more on FM.
Why is this?

The genre is not dead. But the appeal of a 100% D&B station, maybe less so these days on FM, 24/7 would be a bit much unless you have ability to programme the right kind of D&B at the right time, chilled atmospheric drums overnight for example.

There is definitely a place for drum and bass on the radio, at the right time, and done properly

Yeh I think last station that was pure DNB only was Rude fm 88.2 but I could never pick it up strong and it wasn't back on long and then Origin 95.1 as well but not been on for over year.

Rude have said that is not true. Apparently just one ex manager involved. Talking to a few ex Origin dj's, they say don't expect too much of it. Apparently the ones behind it aren't too reliable...

Nah drum + bass always crystal clear in east London when on. They sometimes boost the signal to the west at Xmas as I can pick it up when doing jobs over there 😄

Only one I remember was Charge but that was more Essex way, that was purely just dnb. I think many stations cater for all styles now and its just a matter of when you do tune in they may play DnB but you just dont know when unless you know the schedule. I think now that it seems Kool has gone from FM (is that for real now?) then perhaps someone should pop up and do a pure dnb station, why not eh. People on lockdown so bored, nothing to do etc might be worth a shot. Is Empire London still on? I remember going on there once with a DJ just seemed to be dnb all the time.
